Going to buy some aftermarket tickets to the FO (official site is sold out), and wondering if anyone know anything about:

    goaltickets.com
    Vividseats.com

or have a suggested site they have used?

    Thanks!

    More questions! :)

    Ran into this article:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/sports/tennis/06scalper.html

This part makes it sound like they are checking IDs at the French Open when you enter the grounds...is this accurate? I've seen another post confirming this. :(

"Most of the tournament’s 460,000 seats are sold online at the federation’s Web site, but perhaps 30,000 make their way into a secondary market tapped by illegal scalpers and legal sales agents. The struggle over these seats stretches beyond Paris.

“Apart from the scalpers, who are around the stadium, you have something like more than 100 Web sites,” said Longuépée, whose responsibility is ticketing and corporate hospitality.

All are aimed at selling tickets “they don’t have,” he said.

“They don’t have because we sell them,” he said, referring to an electronic ticket system the federation began in 2007. It sells seats online to the general public, sending by e-mail boarding-pass-style receipts with names and bar codes to be scanned on arrival. Buyers must show identification at the gate."

Redflea, I don't know how viable the scalper ticket should be. I am going to the first day(Sunday), I have tickets but the FO site requires you to log in and put the exact names of the people using the ticket so they can match it with your ID. This is my first time going to the FO. I think gavna goes there every year.

Yes it's true - when you purchase tkts you have to provide a name for each - if you have xtra tkts you cannot just give them away or sell them you must go thru the RG Viagogo process where folks can resell or exchange xtra tkts.
The whole thing was redone 5 yrs ago due to scalpers getting their hands on so many tkts it's was next to impossible for the gen public to get seats. For example last week I received an email from the FFT telling me my tkts are now available for printing BUT for each ticket I have to input a name and phone ctc - when you arrive at the gate they check the barcode with a scanner and your ID, once a tkt is printed that's it only that person encoded in the barcode can use it. Thus I cannot sell my tkts to anyone else.
To be honest your best bet is go to the stadium the day before and see what's available for the next day or try the Viagogo process at the FFT/RG website.

Thanks very much for clarifying things! I'm glad I got this straightened out now. :)

I have registered on the official ticket exchange site, put a "watch" on the days I'm interested in, but no tickets area available yet. :(

I may be able to try going to see what's available when I'm there, but my schedule is not under my own control, so that may not be possible. Oh well...I'll have to see if the official ticket exchange works out, and if not whether I can try to buy at the venue.

Gavna - when do you think I would want to line up on Sunday to have a shot at getting two grounds tickets for that Monday? We talking Sunday at 6AM, or ? Thanks for sharing your experience...helping me avoid many hassles!

Redflea, just got an email from the Roland Garros site that the viagogo site is now open so maybe some people will start selling their tickets there. Goodluck!

I went to the FO in 2008.
I pre-bought grounds-pass tickets online before I went. In hindsight, this was a big mistake.

If I were to go this year, I would simple buy tickets when I got there. You can either buy them from the gate, or if you're impatient, buy them from one of the many desperate scalpers standing outside.

Also, you will not be able to get nearly as good a deal from an online seller as you can onsite. In 2008, a grounds pass was $18 at the gate, but anywhere from $50 to $100 from the internet resellers.

Also, they don't really fill up the stadiums, so the scalpers get left with lots of tickets for those seats. Discounted deals for less than face value can be found if you time it right.

Another funny thing about the FO - the stadiums were completely empty whenever a women's match was going on. Mass exodus whenever a men's match finishes and gets replaced by the women.

The outer courts get the most crowded with spectators, since that's where yo can see the players at close range.

I am finding that tickets are becoming available via the official site - tickets are now available for qualifiers and for the day after I can go. So it looks like this may work out after all!!

Dont see how brokers can sell the tickets as since the FFT went to the verification system a few years ago scalpers nor tkt holders cannot resell tickets on their own. The VIAGOGO site thru the FFT/RG is the only way. I just listed and sold some xtra seats i had for the first Wed. You only real option is to see the box office the day BEFORE you want to see matches, at the RG boxoffice they will sell some very limited seats for the next day. You cannot just show up and try to buy same day tickets. under the new system in place each ticket is bar-coded with the holders name and email and ctc info - the RG staff will check your ID and ticket at the gate upon entry.
Of course you can always use the travel agent brokers who have the packages - but those seats are not sold on a day by day basis and cost in the $1000s. If someone is trying to sell RG tickets on a resale site or craigslist or *bay they are bogus.

Its not done like that any longer - no scalpers - no 3rd party online resellers and no walk up sales for same day. All must be bought in advance and all tickets sold are assigned to a person, must have ID that matches the name on the ticket. RG/FFT did this a few years ago to kill off the scaplers.

Damn. That's too bad. I remember the scalper price at Roland Garros is actually less than what USTA charges for their ground pass at the Open.

Monday - second day of first round. Court1 (The Bull Ring!).

    :)

They came up repeatedly for Tuesday over the past few days, but that wouldn't work for me.

Then this AM there were tickets for a bunch of different days on the site so I pounced...by this afternoon they were all sold!

Seen him a couple of times at he USO and Indian Wells. Paris is too much beautiful and aesthetically pleasing watching Rafa there would be like a guido Italian telling a Zen monk on how to meditate:)

ROTFL !! I thought the analogy was a rampaging/raging bull in a china shop. But perhaps you inadvertently thought of a Zen monk since you were replying to me.:)

Because like Zen monks, you make philosophical remarks which actually mean nothing?

Did anyone sign up for Service+ on viagogo, and if yes, did it work for you? I did, to be informed when tickets are available for many days, and didn't ever receive any notification.

Moreover, one of the sessions for which I got a ticket (directly off of the viagogo page) was indeed one that I had also signed up with Service+ for. Shouldn't it have gone to whoever was next in the Service+ queue? Even if they decided they didn't want it, they should've eventually come to me right, because I'm in that queue too?

They've said we'll be given a refund, so I'm not that pissed off. But still, sounds like they just made some money by having us invest in them for the time. Whatever. I don't believe it actually worked... Shady business to me.

How strict are they about checking the IDs of the attendees, and making sure the name in the barcode of the ticket matching the name on the ID?

They are VERY strict with checking IDs when entering the grounds, and if the name on the ID does not match the name in the barcode of the ticket, they won't let the person in.. Especially for court Philippe-Chatrier - another checking happens there.

So there is not point trying to buy from some person at this point in time, because name changes to the barcode on the ticket cannot be made now.

I stand corrected. Whether or not name changes can be made, depends on when the ticket was bought.

For example, I bought 2 tickets on May 22nd, when the tournament had officially started, so the names on these tickets cannot be changed now. But I believe on tickets bought before that, name changes are still possible.

When exactly this cut-off between the time-frames is, I'm not sure. I think if the "green pen" icon is still visible in the FFT account, names changes are possible; otherwise, they are not. I would recommend talking to the FFT to make sure.

They were pretty hard core about checking IDs last year. It took us 5 mins to get our IDs checked w/ my 7 month old daughter ...
