12 threads about the RF97 on page 1 of the Pro's Gear forum, and the number is steadily rising.
And that is just in that forum. The total number of RF97 threads on TT outnumber the number of stars in the galaxy.

Is this psychotic amateur obsession with Federer's new racket getting out of control?
Why does everyone want to use the same racket as one particular pro?
Do they subconsciously think it will make them play like him?
Or is it just a way of associating with their favorite player?

All because it is Federer's new racket.
Other Wilson rackets did not get this level of attention upon being announced.

The reason is that most players don't think that they can play with his 90, and they feel that this is something that they can actually use because it's big enough. BTW, you do realize that you started one more RF97 thread.

a lot of idiots buy into hype and marketing.
I am sure the racquet is going to be a wonderful transition for many players, but you are right. It seems like everybody in the world is going to get one.

And everyone knows it is a Babolat with a paint job. He is using Nadals racquet so that he can play as well as his idol!

I really don't understand what the hype is with rackets. Unless you're playing with a Walmart racket or a wood racket, getting the racket of your hero isn't going to make you play any better. I played with a ProStaff 90 yesterday and after about 5 minutes, I was hitting as well as I was with my BLX 6.1 95. Then I tried a wood racket and THEN I could tell a noticeable difference, but I could still hit reasonably okay even with modern technique (SW western forehand and open stance).

Speaking of which: is the RF97 the actual racket that Federer is currently using?
Or is he still using a Pro Staff 90 painted to look like the RF97?

Is Wilson still trying to scam the amateur crowd with this fraud, like every other racket manufacturer?

It seems no professional player actually uses the racket that they are advertised as using.

I may end up getting one to make my Prostaff collection complete. I have the the first prostaff "old woody with diamonds", an original 95, and a 6.1 classic. The new Rogi staff would make the perfect book-end, no? (my playing frames are YY, so no worries Michael;)

I can tell the difference, and I'm fairly particular, but I don't think the racket would affect more than a couple points unless as you said it's wood or something very different.

The biggest difference I noticed with wood had to do with the stability of the frame and the grip. I do not enjoy using leather because I tend to get blisters easily, and the racket twists a lot. This is the primary reason why was more challenging for me to play with wood. Otherwise, it actually felt okay to hit with a modern style of play. I didn't have to change my strokes at all and I could sustain a decent rally.

I watched a former #2 Harvard guy destroy me and my partner after breaking 2 racquet strings borrowing a 4.0 girls extra Walmart tweener. He could use anything and destroy any Rec player. Racquets mean nothing. But I do believe that the RF 97 Basalt stick will alter the overall course of the sport.

Total BS. Racquets actually mean a lot. Not everything, and of course, it may be possible to adjust to any racquet over time, although I could never adjust to a too HL racquet or to a H22...

Had to comment on this, sorry. There is only one star in the solar system - The Sun.

BTW Pro Staff 90 >>>>>>>>>>>>> RF97. I am glad for all the hype, since I can get cheap Pro Staff 90s at ridiculous sale price.

Yeah you're right. This raquet will propel all the 3.5s to 4.5 within 1 year. Racquets mean everything. An H22 will make any 4.0 a 5.0 just by carrying it in his bag and not even using it.

You obviously didn't understand what I was saying. That a hi level near pro 5.5/6.0 when playing against 2 4.5 jackasses, racquets mean nothing. Nothing changed when he was using the wal mart tweener. He still played exceptional. He still destroyed us. It was comical.

Currently 9 threads about the RF97 on page 1 of the Racquets section.

Once the RF97 is officially released in October, this forum will be flooded with even more RF97 threads.

Quite the opposite from what I said, but I expected that from someone who does not have a valid argument.

Anyway, back to your Harvard guy -- yes, he will destroy ANY of us here no matter what he uses, I would destroy any 3.0 even if I use the badminton racket. You obviously do not know much about tennis saying NOTHING has changed for him going from his regular stick to the WM thing. I guarantee you he would not win a single game over his level opponent using that racket. So, yes, the racked DOES matter.

I love the PS90s and getting them for cheap is a PLUS. However, the kind of 90 I want is the K88; black and better looking than the 85.;)

And I wonder what percentage of RF97 Autograph buyers are going to use the
Wilson natural gut and Luxilon Alu Power Rough hybrid setup.

Everyone's gonna use Natural Gut once RF declares he is using a full bed of natural gut. Go with the flow (as if everyone's suddenly gonna play like Fed).

Apparently if you buy one on Black Friday they come with a wife who sits on the sidelines and heckles your opponent.

RF97 is overrated. The Pro Staff 90 is much better. Get yours on sale, now instead of wasting $200+ on RF97.

I played a set with a old heavy composite frame against my friend who takes a set off me once or twice a year.

Yes,the racquet does make a big difference. I was not getting anywhere near the same amount of pace on my ball and he beat me like 6-3 from memory.

On the RF 97---- it feels way too stiff,so I wouldn't buy one.

They want to associate with their hero. Some people do this with Rafa's gear too. Can't tell you how many guys I've seen in florescent sleeveless shirts and yellow Babolats & etc a few years ago.

Nothing wrong with this but if a smaller company released the same stick as the RF97 with no pro behind hit it wouldn't sell much.

I haven't seen one either. But my pro shop guy said he sold every piece rightaway, even the ones he had planned to retain as demos. So someone out there is buying these frames.

If it (RF97) were 100% Karophite Black and a true 88 sq in (instead of 90.125), he would have collected another 2 slams plus a seventh WTF!:)

...which makes me think, did he lose his singles (Davis Cup) with an RF97 and won with a PJed K 88?
