Very sad news this morning indeed re Severiano Ballesteros, a player who, like the true sporting greats, actually transcended his sport and leaves behind a legacy and a place in the affections of the public above and beyond the trophies won.

    RIP Seve Ballesteros.

I had noticed his name wasn't floating around the golf tournaments and thought that maybe he had moved to the seniors tour or retired. Very sad-Rest in Peace Seve. :(

He was battling cancer for a while, and I started getting worried when nobody was talking about his recovery. It is sad, because he inspired so many.

I agree. A great golfer, great sportsman, and a man of strength and charm. We will miss him.

I once followed him round St Andrews in the Dunhill Cup. He had a following of eager children, young women, golf enthusiasts of all nations and Scottish matrons scrambling over the dunes following his every move. His round was up and down but he never ceased to be utterly courteous to all those who followed his fortunes so anxiously.
