It's a shame that he suffered his wrist injury and then was diagnosed with Mono. Will we see a comeback anytime soon? I miss seeing him in the main draws.

he apparently has chronic fatigue syndrome, not mono. That's a life destroying illness in many cases, never mind being a professional athlete.

But yeah, sucks for him and the fans.

That's disappointing. He was really becoming a solid player.

Unless he has some miraculous Jimmy Connors comeback, he is done (sniff... sniff). Let us not remember him for what he could have been, let's remember him for what he did. The thundering forehand that made him the King Slayer. The Marat Safin reincarnate, with the battle plan of hit hard, if it fails, hit harder. The towering Swede that was cruelly taunted by the Fates and the one and only to defeat Nadal at Roland Garros. He gave us memories that will never fade, and for that we can only give our thanks. He gave his all but sickness took from him the best years of his playing life, he will be truly missed.

(sits in a corner and cries)

I actually miss this guy. Hopefully he shocks all of us and makes a comeback. He's really not that old if you think about it, so maybe if he gets healthy enough we will see him back out there.

They replayed his victory match over Nadal (FO) & he was just wicked with that forehand, blew Nadal off the court.

I never liked soderling after that incident with Nadal at Rome i think it was, but i feel really bad for the guy. he had the game to beat both Nadal and federer at a slam and was unlucky he couldn't do both the same year. Sad to see someone retire young and without the choice.

Well, he hasn't actually announced his retirement yet but the 2 year mark is fast approaching since he last played. If his condition hasn't improved enough by then to allow any serious plans for a return then I agree it seems highly unlikely that he ever will.

i'm pretty sure he cares... you can't go from being a competitor, week in, week out, at the very highest level to suddenly stop... especially when it's not your decision.

on the other hand, there is probably so much of life that he had sacrificed to get to that level, so he has a lot to live for and experience...

would be nice to see him still involved in tennis. maybe he'll train the next non-pusher.

really puts into perspective the stupid flame/troll wars on here. I never liked Soderling on tour, while respecting has game as potentially lethal.

However ever since he has been out I've been dying for him to come back, and the more unlikely it seems the more I hope against hope. So unfortunate for your career to be taken away from you in your prime.

I have to join those others', I also deont believe much that "monucleosis" story... He almost double bageled Ferrer and Berdych at Bastad 2011 and very next week he all of sudden got worst case of mononucleosis possible (never heard of anyone being 2 years k.o.)

^^didn't seem to be an English translation option what does it say ('bakslag' funny word)

SODERLING HAD BEEN STRUGGLING WITH HIS ENergy Level/ health for a while before he finally stopped playing.

same thing happened with Englands very own Heather Watson..she was saying she felt 'burnt out' and wanted a break last month, theN changed her mind but then found out she'd had mono and is now out for an unknown amount of time..
