Just wondering if anyone has some good quality videos of Rod Laver in action? The youtube clips I've seen are generally scrapping the barrel in terms of quality. Seems shameful to be a tennis fan and only know how great he was from hearsay...

I'd also like to see videos of as many of the former greats as possible. So yeah if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of good quality video of Laver matches on YouTube. The sad part is that high quality video is out there. Just not significant parts or highlights of matches. Here's an example of some excellent quality video. Problem is that it's more of a short documentary about the match than footage of the match itself:

However, here's a site that sells vintage matches on DVD: http://www.ricklovestennis.com/

IMG Media has a copyright claim on matches from the 1969 Wimbledon. At their request Youtube took down the highlights of the Laver-Ashe semifinal (a lower resolution copy of that highlight video remains on YT).

I recall the Laver-Newcombe final being uploaded in its entirety recently, though I can't find it now. I presume it was also pulled for copyright reasons.

There's a wonderful five-set match of Laver's that's available, from the 1970 Dunlop (d. Rosewall). I made highlights here, but unfortunately the original of that video is very poor quality (the ball is hard to see).

There's a similar problem with the highlights I made of the 1960 Wimbledon final, except that the original broadcast is even worse.

There's not a lot of great quality Laver footage available; and much of what is high quality is being taken down.

I don't even understand why the BBC bother taking them down?, it's not like they're losing money on you putting up the 1969 Wimbledon semi is it?

OP, here some fantastic extensive highlights of Laver v Borg in the End of Year Tennis Masters Cup:

The picture quality is excellent and so is the tennis.

Thanks, I think we had someone link to that video (from the '75 WCT Finals). Nice footage.

That was the 1975 WCT Finals in Dalllas. Laver was 37 years old, semi-retired, and a bit past his prime.
