Although Roddick every time got spanked by Federer and Nadal Co, and didn't even reach the 4th round in this AO and didn't even win a Masters in 2007 and couldn't even go as far as Blake did this time, he is still the highest ranked American player. And Americans still put high hopes on him. When someone mentions American tennis today, people think of Roddick.

The Williams sisters have been there for almost a decade for as far as we can remember, but they are still the best American women out there. Although occasionally one or 2 or them can still win a GS, they are no longer dominating as they used to. They are also sometimes spanked by Henin and Sharapova Co, and now even Jankovic and Ana can also whip them. But Americans still put their highest hopes of women tennis in them.

    Isn't there something wrong?

At least you have women in/near the top 100.

Can you name or do you know of any rising American female players?

After, Lindsay, Venus and Serena are gone, the pool for USA women will be almost empty.

With Roddick and Blake, well they haven't proved themselves in a long time (Blake never really) and countries always like to put high hopes in their top players regardless of how realistic.

The Williams sisters have shown they are still capable of coming out of nowhere and winning slams. Venus with Wimbledon 2007 and Serena with Aus Open 2006 so it is not really unrealistic to put high hopes in them.

There doesn't seem to be many American play after those you mentioned sure we have Isner and Young on the mens side but they are not "break out" stars yet and on the Womens side there is whom? Right not Roddick and the Williams sisters are the "big name" stars. I don't know why Blake isn't on the list as a "big name" he really should be.
