Absolutely nothing spectacular about that shot at all.

Just shows how Fedfans are revising history to make Fed seem better than he actually was.

I don't even like Federer all that much and I gotta disagree with you. First of all even Roddick gave it up to him in the video. Nowadays Agassi, when interviewed, always mention how he would have never conceived someone in his era to do the things that Federer does.

Federer is a genius of sorts when it comes to playing tennis. And as far as that shot. You are right it isn't that spectacular by Federer standards. But neither you or me could hit it. I don't think you realize how hard roddick hit that last shot and how difficult it is to actually react which as much composure as federer did.

And check your attitude, man. You can better employ that passion on another more important thread.

I wasn't talking about the shot, I was just fascinated by Roddick's comments to Federer when they are shaking hands.

I thought you were talking about the point too. What did he say? (my sound isn't working).

    Touche.

(I am fully aware that neither you nor I could have hit any of the shots seen. I just am judging Fed by pro standards.)

Look at the way fed is bouncing around on his feet, and look at the racquet head speed he's getting on his backhand. Haven't seen that since early 2007.

What is your problem? The guy has won 13 Grand Slams, including 5 straight at Wimbledon and US Open. He held the #1 ranking for 237 weeks, and has been crowned by many (including Agassi "He is the best player I've ever played" and Laver "It's a pleasure to be considered as good as him" or something to that effect) as the greatest of all time. And you want to call him overrated? Calling you an idiot would be an insult to stupid people...

For once I agree about the shot. I've seen Federe play far more incredible shots. There were times when Federer used to have at least 2-3 incredible, never seen before shots in a match. The talent of Federer....

Indeed it sounds like Roddick says, "You're such a f.ucking d.ickhead."

Although it seems like it was more out of respect and said as a joke than being serious.

Reaction? Well, I suppose it gives a little insight into their personal relationship, seeing that Roddick feels comfortable ribbing Federer with a little profane banter and Roger takes it in good spirit, both guys getting a laugh. They've known each other a long time, their careers have been closely parallel (both turned pro around the same time, both reached the top of the tour around the same time, both have stuck around for seven years, being the only two to do so), and even their personal lives perhaps have some common ground, with both guys about to become family men (Federer's forthcoming baby, Roddick's imminent marriage), so I imagine they identify with each other pretty well.

I get the feeling this thread was created as a fishing expedition to try to bash Roddick. Guess what? It's not going to work. Actual knowledgable tennis fans (as well as people with genuine common sense) know Roddick was just joking around and both players feel very comfortable around each other.

Sure, Roddick is in love with Federer.

“DON’T feel too sorry for Roger because none of us do. He’s spent far too long getting right into our heads, now let’s see if he’s going to be subjected to a little anguish and self-belief problems.”

That was incredible. Roger has waaaaaaaaaaay too much talent. It's a disgrace Rafa and him had to play in the same era.

Good old foul mouthed Rohdick. I guess his parents never washed his mouth out with soap. Disgrace.

my friend, i worked in vegas at the MGM grand casino for 6 years up until 2 years ago. Ive seen MANY of the sports greats come thru the doors there. Ive seen many of them at night clubs and in public places around vegas. Roddick compared to some of the worlds beloved athletes has a toned down sense of vulgarity. Some pro athletes drink and talk more stupidly with every sip. Others just have good TV appearances but are really nasty mouthed people. some are just rude, and think their **** dont stink.

You are right. Thanks for recounting your experiences. Its just that Rohdick stands out among tennis players for his foul mouth during tournaments, not in night clubs or casinos.

i agree, i just think that some have very over glamorous careers and are really crappy people when not on TV.

I cant really be upset with Roddick about what he does on court.. he has raised more for underpriveleged kids than he has made in his career of tennis.

In front of my computer, obviously
A century ago when this match actually happened (it feels like it was that old), I believe the consensus at that time was that he said 'you are too f*@king good, man' or something like that. Post match interviews at the time showed the neither thought too much of it (if my memory serves correctly). I can't be bothered to watch the clip again and rehash this all over again.

Was Roddick looking in a mirror?

    Fed's not really a d.ickhead. He's just a crybaby.

Yes, but this was an instance of affable foul-mouthedness. I don't think it's too inherently evil (though it's obviously not the most genteel way of expressing oneself) to use coarse language in a setting like this, where you're talking to a very familiar individual in what is obviously a lighthearted fashion. I'm sure plenty of players engage in this sort of talk in the locker room or on their own time; unfortunately, though, Roddick doesn't limit his use of this language to such context, instead allowing it to spill over into his arguments with umpires, which creates totally inappropriate situations and sets a terrible example for his fans (I'd keep in mind what Deltox has to say here, too, though). Regardless, I don't think there's anything dastardly about this particular incident.

    das·****·ly adj. Cowardly and malicious.

This is a new English word I learned today. So Roddick's cursing actually did some good at the end.

    Thanks Joseph.
