I know its been posted before. But there are a lot of new users, and this is one of the best pieces of writing by one of the best writers of our generation, and perfectly captures the sport and Federer.

I urge people to read his books/articles if you get a chance.

If you don't like Fed and want to argue about that, don't bother replying.
If you want to turn this into Fed vs XXX, don't bother replying.

So very true...I stumbled onto that particular piece, I believe thru this site, and it is a terrific read. DFW is so darn eloquent and can really turn a phrase.

Great article. Never heard of it before. Thanks for poasting.
Reflects my own thoughts and emotions.

btw, someone should post a clip of that point from the final of 2005 US Open. Hard to visualize it.

I remember watching that match but i can't remember the point. It was great to see Agassi getting through each match till the final.

I think in that match there was a lot of wind, and Agassi was known as a very good wind player, but Fed was even better!

And in the TB he suddenly flicked a switch and won it 7-0 !!

I wonder what article David Foster Wallace would have written in 2009 after Fed got the GS record. He committed suicide in 2008.
