Does roger federer use a new racquet every match?

Like many other headline pros, he orders dozens of them (made specially for him) from the factory when a new model comes out, has all of them matched customized further, then uses them until a new model is announced.

so he switches every time new model comes out. He seem to really like his new prostaff a lot. Wonder if he will switch when they come out with Prostaff Spin ?

What I meant was that whenever a new retail model that he endorses is announced or comes out, he gets several dozens of a custom-made version with a paint job identical to that retail model.

He only uses the ones that Annacoan inspects and certifies. Sometimes they come all effed up from the pro shop and get tossed out or sold on e:bay.

He's onto his 3rd paintjob of the same frame. According to previous comments by P1 who 'manage' his frames he gets 12 new frames, four times a year - approx every 12 weeks during the season I guess.

So, no, he does not use a new racquet every match, although he does use a newly strung/gripped racquet every match (and ball change generally).

    K90 > BLX > PS BLX

I think someone has previously spotted some small differences between the first one you mention... Although, small mould changes would make less difference than the internal composition and/or fabrication methods - two things we really don't know much about at this stage even after all the pics of his actual frames.

He has several new rackets strung-differnent tensions and weighted by a company, like priorty one, he changes them out as the match progresses, like when new Tennis balls are used.

depends on what you mean by "new racket"?

hes been using the same frame since 2002 with new paintjobs but he uses new rackets for every match with new strings and possible new frames. He carries about 12 to each match and about 60-70 to a tournament and restrings them 600-700 times a year. This is as per what he replied to someones question on his website

I strung at the Cincy Master this year with Priority One, and this is simply not the case. He does not use a brand new frame for every match. New strings? Yes.

Here is a thread I started about my experience meeting them, and stringing with them at Cincy:

That is the case with many if not all players, i have several pro sticks and some are heavy used (with new strings) with a lot of paint damage on top or sides...

At least it is safe to say that Federer does not nescessarily change his racket because Wilson has the need to introduce a new model and colourscheme.

Well, Nostradamus would agree with me on this.. the real reason for the Gilette Roger Federer Tour is because the world ends on 12/21/12

anyone notice fed's newer cosmetic of his PSBLX90. It says Ninety near the throat area instead of SIX.ONE 90.
The BLX logo on the side of the racket looks a little different too

    Yeah, that is really interesting..
I wonder why Wilson suddenly changed it.
It looks much cleaner, in my opinion.
Wish I could trade my old ones to these new ones..

That doesn't look like ALU to me? When did he ever switch from using it anyway?

It is photoshoped, this is the REAL photo from Roland Garros...

Notice the writing on the frame is both different and written the other way.

    Ok, now I am confused!
If this PJ is only a photoshop:

And this is the "real deal":

Why was Roger using a racket with the cosmetic like in the first pic at the exhibitions in South America ???

i think they photoshoped the new PJ in an old picture of Fed's because they posted it before the South America Tour.

This time last year, Federer practised during the off-season with his 'new' PJ sticks.

See, Priority 1's twitter from December **2011**

For 2012, the same thing is being repeated, but this year he's not in Dubai practising with new new sticks in his private court - he's in South America practising with them during his exhibitions.

I was talking to my son about this. Wilson, to make money has to come out with a new, advanced model for everyone to buy. Does this mean Fed says "Well I like the K-90 but we should change this and that", or like others have said does he keep the same raquet then just go along with the new paint job?

It seems that someone of Feds meticulous desire for exact specs, he wouldn't just change every few years.

I mean they are all very similar, my BLX 6.1 90 plays just like the new Prostaff 90 (New one is a little more head light I think), but it's not really a factor.

I don't know, but it just seems Fed is not going to change racquets in conjunction with Wilsons marketing plans.

Obviously he updates his racket abit, I wouldn't say he uses the exact same frame as in 2002 but of course he got the updates (blx, (K)ontrol, etc
to the rackets. But all in pretty much the same frame. just which the slight change in technologies.

I can not see why that should be "obvious" and "of course".
