Despite the awesomeness of these shots, Roger should stay away from tweeners at grand slams.

    Ultimately, Tweener= grand slam loss

I would say it is stupid of him to show off, so in a way, he deserves to lose this one.

    lol maybe.

To be honest though, there really wasn't much more he could do on that shot :p

That's silly. He didn't deserve to win because Del Potro won and outplayed him (largely because Fed served poorly). It happens.

He didn't lose because of "karma" from some tweener shot, and he wasn't showing off. From the position he was in, it was really the only shot he could have hit.

I applied the same logic : I will never hit a Forehand or a backhand or a serve at a Grandslam.

Guess what , it worked. It saved my name from being all over the TW forum (imagine threads like is tennis_monk's forehand the 100000999's best forehand in tennis history?)

Against Marat Safin, i would say he tried to be cute. Against Djokovic, he was completely out of position and he only had two plays a) try a lob b) do a tweener. Given his position , both are extremely low percentage shots. he chose (B) and it worked.

Yep, your analysis is correct. Except I think the lob wasn't an option because the ball was too low by then.

Showing off...haha. Players do it all the time, it just doesn't make highlights because most of the time they fire it right back to the net player and lose the point. Its a fun shot to hit, its fun for everyone watching, even Djoker thought it was cool. Its like any other sweet play it any other sport. We love to see big hits in football, and the majority of the time they aren't necessary, and its fun for the player (at least the one making the hit.) We love to see alley-oops on fast breaks and huge slam dunks in basketball games when a lot of the time a lay up would do fine, and its fun for the players. We like to see tweener passing shots because they're more rare than any of those, just as sick and pleasing to the eye, and its fun for the player.

Tweener fail = loss in that match
Tweener success = loss in a match later in the tournament

TWEENER SUCCESS = LOSS later in the career.

This is true for every single PRO. if they ever tried tweener in their life at all (even as a kid ) , they will have LOSS later in the career.

Just means that in those matches his footwork wasn't up to par so he was forced to hit ridiculous shots. Instead of setting up the points properly. :)

Roger wins the matches where he does a tweener so I would say do more of them.

If he does a tweener he should do it like Schiavone does here...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlaC9lBqfeY
... and follow it up with a magnificent running forehand winner. That will keep your opponent quiet for a while.

I see no problem with the tweener. Usually it's the best available shot for him to get out of a tough spot. This is not Monfils we're talking about.

If you can run PAST THE BALL and hit a tweener you can certainly run around the side of it and spank it behind you. There is no reason to play this non-tennis-shot.

On the contrary, he should do the exact opposite and do a successful tweener in every single match!

After all he actually WINS those tweener matches.

Fed will never win a GS again regardless of how many ridiculous Tweener or squash shot winner he hits because,

    1) he's aging, a step slower
    2) overpowered by younger opponent
    3) Even if the the opponent is not hurting him, he'll also self explode by hitting ridiculous amount of UE in Off day.
    4) Less stamina, less drive

That's a pretty idiotic statement. Its first of all a legitimate way to win a point, and on the way it also gives the crowd some good time. He deserves to lose when he's being outplayed, not when he's hitting nice shots.

+ who cares about whether one hits a shot between the legs, next to, behind, in front, whatever as long as the shot succeeds?
Ultimate show off shot, matches Fed's megalomania and desperate need for attention of course. :-?

That means nothing. I've just tried to explain it 's nothing special. Amusing but in the end not worth more than any other shot unless you're desperately seeking an excuse to gloat...

I'd just like to point out that neither your infatuation with Nadal, nor your irrational biases for him make you knowledgeable about tennis.

In fact, your constant put downs towards one of the best players of all time (Federer) proves you have very little insight into the game.

I'm more of a Federer fan, but I can admit that Nadal is a great, humble champion. You seem to lack the ability to give Federer even the smallest amount of praise.

    Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
    To terrorize y'alls neighborhood
    And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
    Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
    The evil of the tweener
