Why doesn't Fed ever play this tournament? It's an ATP 500 on indoor hard courts, which is Fed's best setting. Does it conflict with something else?

Is it not the same time as Basel?

Basel is permanently pencilled in on Fed's schedule. Nothing is ever allowed to conflict with it!

I don't think Nadal will be playing in it much longer.

I don't think Nadal has ever played Valencia. He only plays Barcelona. Barcelona is to Rafa what Basel is to Roger.

The same reason why he doesn't play in Barcelona, and other Spanish tournaments.

*Madrid exception due to Romanian tennis Dictator.

"Fred" has given a commitment to Basel. Sadly, my telly shows Valencia and not Basel (IIRC).

If there is a time zone difference, surely "Fred" could fly between the two and play both in order to keep his #1 a tad longer.

One person commented that If they dont win now guess swiss will be disqualified for the davis cup 2years in a row. May be , but he should seriously skip shanghai , basel and paris he will definitely play as basel being his hometown and paris as a warmup for london.

There is no break between Basel, Paris and WTF, so if he doesn't pull out of any of them he'll have to play for 3 consecutive weeks.

"Win now" meaning what. Do you mean just the match with Netherlands (they won 3:2). Or some stage (I am not conversant with DC stuff)

If the Swiss lost this weekend they would be out of the world group for 2 years

Federer should play every ATP event from now to YEC. Come on Roger, show 'em what a warrior you really are!
