I have been saying for 4 years now that Fed will end up with 19 Slams. What do you think?
I hope for it, but I am not sure. It took him some years to get the 17th and it's not getting easier.Maybe he will reagin ground and confidence with the number one ranking. It was refreshing to not see Djokovic and Nadal. Nice two see two champions without all the neurotic antics.
I used to say 17, now I say 18
only way that happens i think is if he goes on a tear and wins the US Open this year too.
I think he's got one more in him. 2 could happen. would be pretty sweet.
This US Open, next Wimbledon and US Open 20 maybe..
Let's not get carried away here.
He definitely has the capability to. Everyone knows that for him to have a lights out week, he just needs to serve well and be aggressive. He could very well have a lights out week at both hard court slams and wimbledon. it is just a matter of execution.
With Nadal a non-factor outside of slow courts and Novak in sub-2.0 form, he has a good shot at Wimby and USO for the next couple years. I say 19 is a reasonable estimate. But hey, he could continue to surprise us all.
I really don't think so. I would just be glad if he got 18, but you never know. I do like rounded numbers though like 20, 300, etc you know what I mean...
Will definitely have a good look at the USO this year, me thinks.
He struggled through this year's Wimby and the perfect conditions under the roof against Djokovic and Murray gave him a big advantage.
Rafa will also own him at the FO, and Djoko will dominate the USO and AO.
No space for Fed. He's had a great career, and has been a great champion, but in outdoor conditions, he's no longer at the physical level of Djokovic or Nadal.
17 is where he'll stay.
Agree roger could end up with 19 if he rides this momentum into the US open and wins it. he blew it last year against novak and it is probably on his mind.
if he plays rafa, i don't like his chances though
This thread is important in the sense that we've found out that you can increment 17 by 2. Congratulations.
He can get 20 if he puts his mind to it
And racket and body. They're important too.
I don't think Yoda has an ATP PRO license yet.
yeah. i think if fed sticks around for 3 more years..he could win maybe one or two more.
i think that this wimbledon win was more an exception rather than the norm.
Fascinating discussion... seriously... guessing a number.
I'd love it if he did but I have to admit, the stars really aligned for him this year, and even then it was a struggle. The win against Djokovic was very impressive though.
More than anything it proves that if you tough it out and stick around, the chances will come.
A thought that is hopefully not lost on Mr. Murray.
One at time.....18 the goal for now!
It not what used to be when Jim Courier predicted Federer to win 3 slams in 2007 right before Australian open. Federer was expected to win the slams other than the French....and he managed it.
Now in 2012 he isn't the top favorite but just one of the contendors. So us fans hope at each slam event. I hope he does win 19 and actually 21. Being the first man to have more than 20 slams.
Though Federer eyes are at the Olympics, and then preparing for the US Open with filler events in Canada and Cincy.
Time to start Project 18!
I think he can win at least one more AO, and one more Wemby.
Federer's got a good shot at the U.S. Open this year if he keeps up his form and confidence from Wimbledon. He can obviously still beat Djokovic there even if he lost their last two matches, and would be the favorite against Murray and anyone else not in the top 3. I think he'd have to avoid Nadal, though. At this point in their respective careers, and given their previous history, I just don't see Federer beating Nadal at a slam again.
Anything beyond that is pretty far in the future. His back looks like it bothers him more and more, and at a certain point his declining movement will simply become too much to overcome against the top players. Even though he won at Wimbledon this year, his movement to his forehand side has dropped so much. There were tons of balls he didn't even run for. This will only be exploited more and more and if he doesn't make up for it with superb play in every other facet of his game, he's not gonna win slams. That said, another one or even two wouldn't shock me.
Good assessment. Agree on all points.
Nike should make another GS Moments tee with this design.
I'm pretty sure Fed can beat Nadal on Decoturf at the US Open which is the surface they've never met. Because it's a fast hardcourt so the condition will fave Roger.
Yes, and Nadal's patella tendinitis will be even more exposed on Hard Court.
Nadal has zero chance against Fed on decoturf. His only chance against Roger these days is on clay, plexicushion, and plexipave (slow high bouncing surfaces). And even then, Roger won their last slow HC meeting.
So close now. Maybe the OP was right after all!
Why bumping this before it actually happens.
If he makes it 18 tomorrow (today), I think it won't end there.
Because I felt like it. Nobody got hurt.
I got hurt (by seeing the number 19 )
I think he can win even more. It is possible if he keeps his current level up. Big if...but it could happen.
When everyone was counting him out- they failed to factor in these young guns coming up who would take out the likes of Nadal, Murray (and maybe Djoker in the future at a Major), leaving Roger a good chance to beat a rookie in a final.
