According to tennis.com ticker, 500 health experts sent Federer a letter asking him not to play his hometown event because its title sponsor is a tobaco company...

Your views on this? I think he should boycott the event...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... might as well also start asking for boycots for tournaments sponsored by car companies, air companies, bankrupt/corrupt banks, etc.

Oh wait. That's about ALL of them.
Glad Feds won't respond to such overzealous activists.

Idiot do-gooder morons. The best part of owning stocks is voting down these sort of idiotic shareholder proposals(like giving free product away or analyzing environmental impact etc..).

Whatever gets the tournament to run, it's a business, I doubt they care where the money comes from, without them the tournament wouldn't run.

That is what they said about tobacco companies sponsoring sporting events - and added that "poor tobacco farmers" should not be penalized. The world has learned to survive without these "sponsorships" and "ads," including the macho Marlboro man who died of lung cancer.

Why the hell should he boycott the event? Tobacco companies provide a service.

Uh if tobacco is legal in the country, why the hell should he not play there? Maybe those doctors should petition the government to make it illegal instead.
One is legal and one is not.

Don't count on Fed or Nadal to actually take a stand on anything. That passed along with Ashe, Navratilova, BJK and others like them. Nowadays it is all about being non-commital, pleasing the sponsors, expanding their marketability, and doing the right charities to "give back" to the community.

That's how he stays so thin, maybe...

Doubtful that Fed smokes, his cardio is way too good for that.

    Maybe Djokovic smokes, though..

And there is not a tournament sponsored by them? Or is there? Maybe Wimbledon.

That would explain the unequal pay for so long.

When Martina was playing, it was the Virginia Slims Tour(not the WTA). So she was taking the money just like the rest of them(and Federer and Nadal).

I like that you put "give back" in quotes. I hate that expression with such a passion. It's like...yeah, we robbed you all blind, now we'll throw you a bone.
