I'm nothing if not a Federer fan, but his latest outfit really fuels the fire that either his sartorial sense is really bad or the folks at Nike are really bad designers.

I mean wtf is this -

WTF... and I thought the freaking cardigan was bad. Seriously, how in the world did he ever think this was a good idea.

That is awful. He had full two weeks of rest to get this right. Effed it up big time.

If its a high-fashion statement from the catwalks of Europe, then I don't get it. Can't they keep his outfits simple and elegant - like the man himself?

...and look at the gold-and-white bag in the first photo... that belongs to Maria Sharapova not an ATP tennis player.

:? I'd have to agree with you......... It comes across as they're trying to give him the modern yet vintage look using the jacket and waistcoat??!!! First pic makes me think of a sailors outfit.

Can't he just stick to normal dress? I suppose his contract with Nike ensures that won't happen.....

Oh my god can it get any worse?
I doubt this is Nike...they would surely realise the marketing flop. He looks like a right royal smugness, trying to play up to his media image of perfection. Barely appropriate for the sport. Belongs at a snooker table.

He's very simple otherwise - he prefers a t-shirt and jeans. I think its the stupid folks at RF/Nike that manage his outfits and image who do a disservice to him.

What's for next year, a three piece white suit with a coat-tail and a gallon hat??

This one is ok. This could have been Nike's updated version for Rafa's sleeveless shirt but since he pulled out, they had Roger wear it LOL..

    Agreed, the jacket is ugghhh!

However, the waistcoat and trousers look nice. Kind of classic in a way with a modern flair.

The bag is a bit over the top. If the sun comes out that could blind folks sitting across the court from it. 8)

I said before, when referring to the 'Pink Shirt', I don't care what they wear, however, I draw the line at leather chaps.

Roger is very stylish, and what he wears is fashionable. The same goes for Nadal-these bright colours are going to be seen next year as apparently there is going to be a lot of hippie influence, or something along those lines I believe.
I have to wonder though, who these designers are, and how I am still unemployed?

I think he looks all right, very 30s-ish. The bag has to go though.

How's it a flop? People may love it or hate it, but they'll definitely be talking about it, which means more exposure for Nike. Anyway, it's not like this outfit is marketed towards regular folks. I think of it as tennis haute couture.

He could've left that gilded murse in the locker room though.

What do you expect? It's Nike. They have been producing crap every since Phil Knight was peddling his wares out of a pickup at track meets in Oregon.

Federer, Nadal, Sharapova, etc ... Nike wants to make everyone a walking eyesore:

Bring back the classy shirts from 70's Fila and Sergio Tacchini. Borg, Vilas, Pannetta wore the best tennis gear.

There is a sense of Michael Jackson in all of this. Perhaps soon, there will be military regalia, a white glove, and shades to with it.

Why couldn't they just stay with the vintage and sophistic
ted stlye that suited Roger and his personality? They pulled this off with the waist coat but, the jacket?

Seriously, I can't say that I like everything that Federer and Nadal wears from Nike (I don't wear Nike) but it's good to see them having a play on clothes rather than just wear whatever their sponsors throw at them. These clothes were designed with them in mind or with their inputs in them. Like them or hate them, it causes a bit of a stir when they go out on court. Plus they are European. These concepts would be scoffed at by your typical Americans.

how does it make him arrogant? He''s under contract to wear what they tell him to wear. It would be more arrogant of him to say he wouldn't wear it and only want to wear what he wants.

    The jacket is too much.

I'm a Federer fan through and through, and the special Wimbledon outfits over the last couple of years have been over the top but just ok - sometimes quite historically stylish in a retro way, this time... nope, just wrong...

Don't like it but it doesn't matter that much as long as he plays great tennis.I think that blazer he wore last year is much better.

I would presume Nike's aim is that people buy it, not talk about it. Don't see anyone gonna go and buy that horror. I'm more likely to switch to Adidas...their feet are on the ground.

It looks ridiculous IMO. He looks really weird in the jacket. The on court gear is not bad though. I really like the white and gold RF jacket he was wearing on the practice court. Would've been way cooler to wear.

I actually liked the cardigan, but this is too much. At one point I thought he was going to play with the long pants cause it is just a first round! :) It was also quite a contrast to see Federer and Hu standing at the net for the toss. He was making Hu look pedestrian with his "normal" tennis attire.

By trying to get creative with white attire, Nike and Fed have walked the fine line for the past few years, but this year I think they've stumbled onto the wrong side.

Now I'm thinking that the next time I go to my league match, I'll wear something really elaborate (laugh)
