It seems like a good way to serve because it doesnt seem to lose power..

Also it is funny that this video is linked to the video "The gayest tennis serve" by youtbube :)

its an odd looking serve.. probably just a bad habit as there doesnt seem to be a huge benefit to power, angle or speed to the serve. the stroke is shorter tho...

The way you get into the power position makes no difference. It's where you end up that's important. He seems to open up his shoulders etc alright. You can say Roddick's abbreviated motion is weird as well.

That is how they teach kids to make sure they take racquet back when they are learning to serve.

He probably had to adapt his motion due to a shoulder injury. I've been told that if you serve like this, starting the motion with the racquet alredy up behind the head is much less strenuous on the shoulder, particularly on the rotator cuff.

I'd rather quit tennis than serve like that...

I had a lesson where a guy suggested I do that. To his credit, I was having problems with finding rhythm and that was a logical solution.

This is where appreciation for style over substance should be taken into consideration.

Forget all this. have you seen Mahesh Bhupathi serving ???????
He usually reaches the doubles finals or semis of most events. Check him out next time on telly.
But tbh he aces quite a bit.

My only objection is that he uses a SW'ish grip. Else all is fine.

It's called the Bollitteri Sonic Serve, i think.
