The solution is just for Nadal to hit even more topspin to Gulbis's backhand. Double, even triple the RPM's. Completely smother it with height and topspin.

The last match between the two was very close. Gulbis said the last time that he likes to play Nadal. Looks like he is ready to prove that he is right now.

Rafa should put some effort in the first set while being 0-4 behind :)

The king hasn't woken up from his nap yet. Once he turns the match around, Gulbis will start to miss like crazy and that will be the end of him.

And on a side note, Paire played a clever match to beat Del Potro. His first top ten scalp too.

Gulbis has a very powerful Western grip forehand that can crush high balls easily, Nadal wouldn't fare too much better against that.

Federer beat Nadal in Hamburg back in 2007 2-6 6-2 6-0, there was another person in the early years, but I forgot who it was.

This purely comes from the fact that these guys are just not comfortable moving forward.

    Gulbis 5 - 0.

Can someone wake up the King? :???:

    Federer in Hamburg.

Gulbis BH is such a weapon, with the damp conditions, it could be too much.

    OK just checked.

Nadal has been bagelled on clay by TWO people.

    Gaston Gaudio and Roger Federer.

    2005 Buenos Aires - Gaudio d. Nadal (0-6, 6-0, 6-1)
    2007 Hamburg - Federer d. Nadal (2-6, 6-2, 6-0)

I think the damp conditions are also aiding Gulbis. Nadal is not getting vicious topspin, and is getting overwhelmed by raw power.

We know Nadal is a god on clay. Fact is, if you hit big and execute anyone can win any match.

    This is damn funny though.

Nadal is spamming his backhand and getting owned.

Gulbis playing great and Nadal hasn't got into the match yet, hasn't been allowed to get his range and he's making errors.

This could be the biggest shock/demolition in clay court history at this rate.

I'll never count Nadal out on clay even if he's down match point 0-6, 0-5, but this is certainly a very interesting start.

The sun is not out and the court looks dampened today. So a bit of disadvantage to Nadal's bouncing game. But I never saw that Nadal got totally destroyed like this. Even Djokovic did not hit that hard.

Whether there's a bagel or not, or whether it's breadstick or not, it matters NOT. Nadal won't let this continue if he loses the set.

Yep, he did. Still, Paire made the most of a somewhat dormant opponent with some great volleys and drop shots.

And my feed is slowing. I bet lots are tuning in now :)
