I believe it was 4-1 in the first set which still is way too early.

You'll see Nadal attacks federer backhand with less frequency or less intensities.
He saves it for French open.

That has made federer believes his backhand improve or just good enough.
    All these years...

I'm talking Nadal federer match on clay only.

Nadal is in full control in this particular series IMHO.

It is pretty much about whether Nadal decides to tank or not, before French open.

And I don't know why. If this were the Nadal of 2008 I would see why they're worrying, but since it's not, I don't understand their anger. Fed will win tomorrow and get his first Rome title. Nadal is not going to stop him.

The real question is, how big will Federer's lead be before he blows it?

I'm going with Federer leading 4-1 in the first set and then losing 7-5, 6-2

Nice try at jinxing Fed. It doesn't work. Your effort is in vain.

I don't hate Fed, but you sure do hate Nadal, and have gone completely off the deep end since Cvac lost yesterday. I also don't think you should be referring to anyone as a troll since you're one of the biggest trolls around here.

I'd be agreeing with you... If your countless amount of tears about how Nadal never wins wasn't as annoying as Monfed. And seriously, when you weren't there, he was really calm. You seem to do quite the effect to him....

Nope. He would have to at least defeat Rafa in Rome and M-C to deserve that honor. Not any time soon I'm afraid.

BS. He has always been this way. He first really started losing it this week when Gulbis failed to beat his most hated player, then it deteriorated even further when Ferrer failed to beat Nadal, either. Then when The Great Serbian Hope Cvac lost and failed to reach Nadal, he went totally off the edge and has needed a padded cell ever since. Trying to blame me for Monfed being a lunatic is totally ridiculous. He was nutters before I ever started posting here.

You are an incredibly bitter hater. seriously. Isn't it enough that your hero owns the H2H, you have to come here and spew your venom? Remember when all is said and done 17>11. Fed's the GOAT. Doesn't matter that he has a one handed BH and ****** has two forehands. That's a match-up issue and anyone with half a brain knows that. 17 will always be greater than 11 and Fed's resume is much more well-rounded than RN's mostly clay accomplishments.

Do I ever wish there were 3 grass Masters events. We wouldn't even be having this conversation because Fed would be so far ahead of ****** you wouldn't even be here. Because ****** wouldn't have any fans, you included.

Sadly, I think this will be a routine win for Nadal.

Really hope Fed proves me wrong though, Nadal seems to have 2nd set lapses these days so maybe that's where Fed's chances lie.

I read on a website that he was wearing his black undershirt (the one that he used to wear to keep his back warm) during the match. This could be the reason his serve (and his general game today) wasn't as good as the previous days. Hope this is only a rumor. Not a good news one week away from RG...

I thought they were only reserved for Nadal?

To be fair ziggy, Nadal hasn't been comfortable in the 1st all week (excluding pathetic Berdych).

The first set is key, it's always is in these Fedal matches.

So what is at stake in this final? I'll start with Fed (the underdog). He's playing IN his 1st final of the season FOR his 1st title of the season. It would be his 77th title overall (#3 in open era tie with McEnroe), his 1st Rome title (in 3 attempts, 2nd time vs Nadal), his 22nd master title (he would still be trailing Rafa but would tie Lendl), his 11th clay title (his 7th master title on clay). It would also be his 8th different master title (he would tie Djoko for most different masters won with 8 out of the 9). He would also tie Djoko for most wins vs Nadal on clay: 3 (except Djoko did it in all 3 masters, Fed still hasn't done it in M-C). I'm not sure if it would give him the #2 seed at RG. Maybe a Fed fan could fill in that info for me?
It would be the 1st time since 2004 that 3 different players win the 3 clay masters. The domination of the clay season would be decided by RG. Whoever grabs it takes it all kind of situation.

    Now for the favorite: Nadal.
He's playing for his 6th title of the year (that would be a record for him at this time of year), 5 th clay title of the season, 3rd master title (this is his 4th master final), his 7th Rome title (whoa), his 24th master title (double whoa), his 41 clay title, his 18th clay master title (incredible), his 56th title overall and a neat 20th victory over Fed (out of 30 encounters), his 11th in a clay final (poor Fed ) and his 14th in a final vs Fed (Fed has only won 6 finals vs Rafa ). Rafa is already #1 in the race but he's playing for the #4 ranking and #4 seed at RG.

A lot at stake in this final!

This reply had nothing to do with GOAThood, but to define Rafa's main challenger on clay. Currently, Rafa's main challenger on clay is Djoko. Fed will close the gap a bit if he wins tomorrow (fat chance though)

He wore it in the last two matches too. His serve was awful today, but I don't know and don't want to speculate if that's to do with any back problem or if he was just off. Hope he serves better tomorrow, although I agree with zagor's post on the previous page... Still voted for Fed in two just to please axel.

It's funny how Federer and Nadal only lose to eachother when they're injured, according to the folks on this forum.
Last match, Federer was injured. The meeting before that, conditions were too windy and messed up Nadal's game. The meeting before that, fireworks messed up Federer's rhythm, the meeting before that, Nadal was coming off an extended leave, etc, etc, etc.
Now we already got excuses set for tomorrow. It will either be "Federer's got a black vest on and has back problems and can't serve his best!" or "Nadal's played too much tennis in such a short amount of time and is tired and still not in full health!"

You do realize how ridiculous you sound trying to blame me for Monfed's craziness, right? He's ALWAYS been this way. Shall I go back and gather up some of the posts he made when I was banned for those 2 days? He was just as crazy as ever, even without me here. Stop trying to explain his lousy behavior by saying that I provoke him. It's pure bs and anyone who has been here for any length of time knows it.

I see that the current situation is:

    TW VS veron + N.S.K.

with extra backup from F1Bob and jinx+anti-jinx from Clarky

I seriously hope Fed wins though to bring peace to this forum, and veron has just been running amok these few months.

Vero has been annoying as all get out lately, but Fed winning tomorrow would hardly bring any peace to this forum. The fed fans around here would overtake this forum and make it unreadable. May as well shut it down if Fed wins tomorrow.

Actually, I got a bit mixed up with the clay FINALs. It's only 10 on clay: 4 RG, 3 M-C, 1 Rome, 1 Hamburg and 1 Madrid (the rest were not finals), so it would be the 11th time (not 12th) that Rafa would beat Fed in a clay final.
Off of clay Rafa has beaten Fed in 1 Wimbledon, 1 Dubai and 1 AO final. So it would be his 14th victory over Fed in a final.
Fed's 6 finals won vs Rafa are: 1 Hamburg, 1 Madrid, 2 Wimbledon, 1 WTF and 1 Miami.

No: 10 finals that Nadal won (it would be his 11th victory over Fed in a clay final). 12 is the total # of clay finals they've played (2 won by Fed).
