Damn someone get Gilbert out of his commentator job (which would of course eliminate the desire for me to listen to any commentators) and to coaching Ryan and his brother.

I think it'd be an improvement over who he's got currently but I'm not sure what gilby could to with Harrison. gilby's biggest success was coaching aa, who had weapons to begin with. it seemed like gilbert reigned aa in a bit. if gilbert could help Harrison cut down on the stupid errors that'd be good but unless gilbert can coach him up some weapons i don't think he'd be able to make much of a dent at a major unless the "planets aligned". on the other hand, i can't think of another coach who gets more out of players than gilbert.

This is correct. Harrison has gone through quite a handful of coaches since coming on tour (NONE of which were USTA until last week)...searching for that magic elixir. Love everyone throwing the USTA under the bus, though. It's always their fault, never the player or the parents or their current team and no one is ever allowed to fall back a little it even without some Joe Schmo chiming in. The only thing the USTA had given him were opportunities and financial assistance... prior to last week (And those were considerable - wild cards, Davis Cup practices, other practice sessions with pros in Fla/chances to train in Boca with his team in place, and probably money to help offset cost early on).

Also love how everyone claims to know exactly what is going on away from or on the court...and has the keys to every pro's ailments on these boards like you are Rick Macci or Robert Landsdorp of the Internet from your couch in Punxatawny. I read these types of threads for the hilarity and the hubris of some of these posters. You guys never disappoint, either.

    What?

Ryan is not short. He is just a shade under Djokovic's height.

Now Christian is another story. He just looks tiny.

With that said, I do agree that Harrison is not that great. I really don't see how he is a top 20 player.

Gilbert did a lot for Roddick too, it sucks that they parted ways. Gilbert was doing a great job nobody realized how amazing Federer was post 2004. Gilbert also helped Murray get his game together, sure Lendl finished it but Gilbert brought him to the top and he's done well for Nishikori as well.

However another good win for Ryan today over Hewitt who has been playing well as of late.

Several years ago; I stop by the USTA training center and the guard said that I could not come in even if I am a USTA member and player! LOL! It seems you have to be invite in and the players that are trained there are selected. It kind of an off limits training center. Not just anyone can go and visit it without permission from someone there. Has this change since 6 years ago?

Absolutely HUGE win tonight for Ryan. Beat Hewitt who is hot right now.

He looked like a really talented player when he took Murray to 4 in the AO.

And just like that, out in the first round of the aptos challenger. Didn't he win that last year?? I thought he did, but he's won a few challengers so I could be mistaken. I heard he was up 5-1 in the final set yesterday and lost 7-5. Bummer.

  11. Was delighted, he lost to Irish player James McGee. That was a poor loss for Ryan but huge win for McGee.
