Anyone else find it amazing that in the middle of Sampras' prime, he came into the 1996 U.S. Open with his last three Grand Slam results being a 3rd Round, Semifinal, and Quarterfinal (11-3).

Old Man Federer at 32 comes into the 2013 U.S. Open with his last three Grand Slam results being a Semifinal, Quarterfinal, and 2nd Round (10-3).

if you extend it out to their last six Grand Slam results, Sampras was 25-4 heading into the 1996 U.S. Open. Federer is 25-5. Weak Sampras.

That's ironically amazing to me.
I expect fed to win US open when every one doesn't have hope for him.

32-year old Federer > 25-year old Sampras

Comparing a 32-year old Federer to a 32-year old Sampras would be funny, though. Sampras had exactly 0 ranking points while Federer is still top 8 despite playing as bad as he can possibly can in the last 6 months.

Pretty cool find. I guess now the bar is set higher than ever with the horde of Fed detrators. Will be interesting to compare other players in 5-6 years.
