does anyone remember in 2002 ...sampras was planning on switching to a babolat racket...and ditching his wilson...it was talked about a lot even on tv by the commentators...does anyone remember what racket it was or these events at all?

i have a tough time believing that, i mean sampras was haivng enough trouble switching to the tour 90, which is about 10x more of a players racket than any babolat offering.

All I remember were rumors that he was switching to a new Wilson Racquet which was supposedly designed for him.

He was testing the Pure Drive only once! After half an hour he decided that it was unplayable for him. That was the whole story about "Pete's switch to Babolat". I was told this by the man who was the Babolat product manager at this time.

  5. Cool. A half-hour is a long time! Do you know what the strings were? Anything close to Sampras' usual gut would probably last five hits for him!

Imagine what his serving would have been like if he'd decided the PD suited him?

have to agree here, and it's not about that few miles more but about placement and variation. Roddick may have the hardest by a long way but sure not the best serve!

His serve is pretty good. As they said today during the coverage, he leads in all serving catagories, except first serve percentage. That seems to me like a great serve. Only federer's is better among top players IMO.

Thats what I vaguely remember. I remember about rumors for Pete getting a new racquet from Wilson. Shortly after, the Tour 90 came out. I don't recall the story about Pete using the Babolat-I wonder what his remarks were.

As far as I know, the only mentionable player that ended up sporting the ROK was Taylor Dent. Federer never ended up using the ROK did he? (PJ of course)

Actually, Taylor uses a custom Wilson racquet that at that time had the ROK cosmetics. The only pro I remember seeing with the ROK was Eleni Daniilidou.
