Does anyone know where I could find that video of Pete Sampras's racquet breaking on the return of serve from Patrick Rafter?

Sampras' serve went through Pat Rafter's string in Cincinatti '99.

Sampras broke his racket on an overhead in the first round match against Agassi at ATP Championship in 1999.

A while ago, I was looking for the same 10 second video you speak of and couldn't find it. Thanks for starting this thread.

^^Yeah, most likely it was fairly worn down, and the material was already breaking down from continual re-stringing, and hitting so damn hard>>> not to mention how tight he strung the frames.

Pete's frame also broke on a return of serve vs Henman at '98 Wimbledon.

I've seen it happen to Borg a few times as well. Maybe because of the unusually high tension both players used.

I've seen quite a few cracked frames with advanced players, the biggest hitting junior I ever played (heads and tails above the other players in power...but he had pro tennis blood in the family and was 6'4 at 15!) broke his frame on a forehand the first time I played him, almost exactly the same break Sampras had there. Talk about intimidation! I had already been told "if he gets his forehand in, it's a winner...every time."

Anyways, as pointed out, with Sampras' high tension and the sheer force with which he wallops the ball, (and has walloped at him!) no surprise he breaks a frame now and then. Happens to all the pros, assuming they stick with a racquet for a while, or if they get a defect.

The old widebodies were worse! Once I hit a swinging forhand volley in 1990ish with a honking Prince Thunderstick and was left holding only the handle! That was the funniest break I had.

I kept some of my cracked frames for souvenirs. But, I think the Thunderstick was returned for a warranty...I then broke the next one 3 weeks later.
