Alright, to "borrow" from the Samster/Saram/Skraggle threads (consider this an undercard to the epic Samster/Saram battle), I've challenged OnyxZ28 to a singles match, best of 3 sets. Winner gets lunch/dinner. Video of the match will be posted online.

    Promo video here:

(Guess which one is the sandbagger and which one is the poser?)

Also, inspired by skraggle, jayserinos99 must call all of his serves, a la pool, and must also hit said serves in a manner such that they pass through my strike zone, like baseball. I will be the judge of said rule and have sole discretion in its enforcement. Failure to hit a serve in a manner as described shall result in a fault.

I predict a straight set win for OnyxZ28. I am on the Saram Sonic diet plan.

Splendid--should be quite fun to follow! Two XO threads simultaneously--nothing better than this here at TTW.

    Good luck mates!

Thanks, although in that video OnyxZ28 was being nice and wasn't going for his normal shotmaking and hitting winners all over the place. :D

Yeah but there's no video of you at the net either so maybe you're holding something back...lol

I can confirm that jayserino is a skilled volleyer with exceptional touch

Alright everyone, OnyxZ28 and I played this afternoon. It wasn't pretty. Onyx's style is to not give you any rhythm whatsoever so I had a hard time trying to settle down. He makes you play his game and I couldn't get into the rallies until the 2nd and 3rd set. By the 4th set, I was tired and started to serve some puffball kickers which thankfully he missed on some crucial points. We have video but it was pretty ugly. We plan on playing again and posting the video of that. Final score: J - 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.

EDIT: so after rewatching the video, it was really 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. i thought it was much closer score-wise. it certainly felt close during the match that's for sure.

Very close match in the beginning. I'd like to see two fit players going at it in the near future!

Yeah, actually the first set has a giant 1999 Spurs championship type asterisk next to it -- down 5-6 in the first, J tanked the first set in a tribute to Nellieball and the Warriors.

If anything, you're like Nellieball. You force others to play YOUR game; in this case, it's trying to handle all that power and hope you can hang in there.

Oh yeah, another reason why the vid from this match cannot be posted is because the camera caught me swearing in a manner that would make a seasoned sailor blush

Bits and pieces in Mandarin and Taiwanese, lol.

Except for the score, of course.

I was so happy I got those serves on video. Nobody would have believed otherwise!

And in the previous match my opponent hit a tweener off of one of my lobs and we got that on video too, so it was pretty cool.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Jolly does NOT hit tweeners.

Nor does he intend to learn, or attempt.

Yup--that sums up the day when I serve up a cream-puff and someone of talent thumps it past me (reminding me of my coach yelling at me and smiling when I did that with him).

You assume correctly. I never hit them either, it just doesn't seem like the most practical shot, when you could hit a forehand or backhand with good topspin, and clearance and get yourself back in the point, rather than the showy shot and hope for the best.

^ Sam, thanks for the offer of strings but considering how sloppy the match was, I'd feel bad for taking them. Now if you ever fly over to the San Francisco Bay Area I'd meet up for hit and a beer afterward. =)

I have a question Jo11y... Do you have ANYTHING that resembles a second gear in terms of pace?!?! Geez, just watched your hardcourt video, and you were just hitting the crap out of the ball (which didn't make for very many rallies at all...).
