    Ole Miss/Virginia Preview

Ole Miss comes in to the match with a 5-2 record with notable wins against Oklahoma 4-0 and Auburn 5-2. Their 2 losses came against Tennesse 4-3 and Mississipp State 4-2.

    Ole Miss Lineup:
-Nik Scholtz is 6'5 freshman from S. Africa with a 5-2 dual match record playing at #1 and 9-2 overall for the year. Notable wins against Florida's Sliliam and Kentucky's Musialek. Notable losses against Tennessee's Libietis and Kentucky's Rossi. Lost both of those matches 6-3 in the 3rd.
-Marcel Thiemann is a senior from Germany with a 5-2 dual record playing at #2 and 10-5 overall. Notable wins against Pepperdine's Hovhannisyan and Stanford's Ryan Thatcher. Notable losses were against UVA's Shane and UGA's Spencer and Singh.
-Jonas Lutjen is a junior from Germany with 5-2 dual record playing at #3 and 14-5 overall. Notable wins Oklahoma's Siributwong and Kentucky's Quigley.
-William Kallberg is a freshman from Stockholm with a 3-4 dual record playing at #4 and 6-5 overall. Notable win against UGA's Spencer at SEC Indoors. Lost 4 of last 5 matches.
-Chris Thiemann is a senior from Germany with a 3-3 dual record playing at #5 and 8-6 overall. Notable win against UF's van Overbeek at the SEC Indoors. Lost 3 of last 4.
-Johan Backstrom is a senior from Germany with a 5-0 dual record playing at #6 and 13-5 overall. Won 5 in a row.

    Thiemann's are 5-1 in the dual season, Scholtz/Lutjen are 4-1, and Kallberg/Backstrom are 2-3.

I'd say Ole Miss's best shot at a point is in doubles. In my opinion they don't match up well at all against Virginia in singles regardless of whether Courtney is in the lineup or not. Ole Miss doesn't have the strength at the bottom that Mississippi State has.

    Projected Lineup
    #1: Thiemann/Thiemann vs Domijan/Rooda - Ole Miss 8-6
    #2: Scholtz/Lutjen vs Jenkins/Oudshoorn - Ole Miss 8-5
    #3: Backstrom/Kallberg vs Frank/Uriguen - UVA 8-5

    #1: Scholtz vs Jenkins - UVA 6-4 4-6 6-2
    #2: M. Thiemann vs Domijan - UVA 6-3 6-4
    #3: Lutjen vs Frank - UVA 6-4 6-1
    #4: Kallberg vs Shane - UVA 6-4 6-3
    #5: C. Thiemann vs Oudshoorn - UVA 7-6 6-4
    #6: Backstrom vs Uriguen - UVA 7-5 6-3

I'll go with Virginia in this one 6-1 after getting a run for their money today against Mississippi State.

Match gets underway at 3pm eastern/2pm central - Live Stats

Ole Miss Twitter link if live scoring doesn't hold up. Ole Miss usually has a blog for their home matches but I don't see any mention of it on their page.

Ole Miss sweeps the doubles point - still see UVA rolling in singles though even without Courtney.

Ole Miss is impressive in singles, their Swedes are big tall ball bashers, although Kallberg can be out stroked if he faces a counter puncher, much like what happened against Auburn.
Scholtz is also a huge hitter and M. Thielman is a crafty player.

    yikes, 3-0 ole miss

really questionable form from uva's big three continues this season

and that bottom half of the singles lineup and entire doubles lineup are below average for the top 15 teams in the country if you ask me when courtney is out - edit: just realized he played dubs, but regardless

they need him back desperately to make it to the semis/finals of NCAAs, but once a giant's body begins to break down, it's rare to ever be 100% again

just ask mr ming or oden

Really dramatic match in Oxford. UVa needs to bring their A game more consistently, although these narrow wins on consecutive days on the road against good SEC opponents are certainly good experience to build on.

Boland's strategy to go with Oudshoorn at 4 probably won the match for them. Putting Domijan at #1 against a player in Scholtz that appears to have a very similar game to him was interesting - IMO Domijan would have been able to overpower Thiemann at 2 so you would have thought they would have left that matchup as-is but I'm sure the coach knows best. Regardless another gutsy performance by UVA on the road.

The Ole Miss guys let the pressure get to them. They were already picturing the win in front of the home fans.

I will say it's nice that these schools are doing these blogs and using twitter to update scores because both Ole Miss's and Miss State's Live Stats took a crap late in the match. In many instances the live stats were several games behind. I don't know what all goes into updating these things but it seems like when the match gets close whose ever job it is to keep the stats updated must be putting the keyboard down and turning into a spectator.

I think the same person is doing the blog and the LiveStats. Late in the matches, with few matches remaining, you start getting a lot more details and point scores on the blog, so the LiveStats suffers from a lack of attention. That's pretty understandable under the circumstances.

Arkansas seems to be a little improved from a year ago but they're still in the bottom 4 of the conference. It'll be interesting to see if they can take a singles spot or 2 today against Auburn

Ladies? What does that mean? It was the men and Ole Miss blew TN out of the water! The only player to win (besides the doubles point) was Fickey who hasn't won in ages. What a year!

The ladies at Ole Miss were ranked in the teens and beat the #8 Team handily, that is what that means, yes I am also aware that the Ole Miss men dominated an inferior team as well.
So take what you want from it.

March 9th SEC Results (Link is the winning school's write-up)

Georgia knocked off Mississipp State 4-3. Georgia got its 4 singles wins rather quickly. Miss State added the 2 singles points after the match was decided. Dawgs got a big test coming on Sunday when Ole Miss comes to Athens.

Ole Miss beat up Tennessee 5-2. UT won dubs in a tiebreak at 1 and then Ole Miss opened up a can of whoop ass in singles taking all 6 1st sets and finishing 5 in straights. Ole Miss's #5 singles and #1 dubs Chris Thiemann didn't play.

Kentucky beat South Carolina 6-1. Match played indoors. Kentucky welcomes Florida on Sunday. If played outdoors I think Florida has the advantage.

Florida routed Vanderbilt 6-1. I made it over to Vandy around 6 hoping to catch a good bit of singles but it was already 5-0 Florida by the time I got there. I saw the 3rd set supertiebreak at #1 which got Vandy its lone win. Vandy's Charlie Jones would just keep it in play and UF's van Overbeek seemed to be trying to hammer it and paint the lines. Almost all the points Jones won were on VOB errors. I also caught the last 5 games of the Sliliam/Austin match. After 4 breaks Sliliam finally held to win it 6-4 7-5. Sliliam has one of the nicest one hand backhands that I've seen in college. Gonzales Austin also had a very nice game and he's only a freshman. A very crisp forehand and nice 2 handed backhand. I don't think I saw him hit a backhand that made it past the service line though. That gave Sliliam a chance to pounce on it and drill some nice forehand winners. There were maybe 25 spectators there by the time I arrived.

Auburn roughed up Arkansas 5-2. Arkansas won a total of 9 games at #1, 2, 3, & 6 singles. Arkansas cemented its place in the basement of the SEC West along with Alabama. Auburn hosts LSU on Sunday - should be a good one.

LSU shut out Alabama 5-0. Not sure why they didn't finish the final 2 courts because Alabama is at home on Sunday and LSU is playing in Auburn. I guess Alabama decided they didn't want to lose 7-0. On Sunday Arkansas and Alabama play so we'll get to see who wants it less.

You'll have your answer by about 4pm on Sunday after they play at Georgia. Georgia and Ole Miss have had a good rivarly for years and I expect this one will probably be close. Not sure why Chris Thiemann didn't play today but if he sits out Sunday Ole Miss will be in trouble.

    Schedule for Sunday March 11th

Georgia hosts Ole Miss at 1pm est - Live Stats & Live Video & Live Blog
Tennessee hosts Mississippi State at 1pm est - Live Stats & Live Video/Blog
Kentucky hosts Florida at 1pm est - Live Stats
Vanderbilt hosts South Carolina at 2pm est - Live Stats
Auburn hosts LSU at 2pm est - Live Stats
Alabama hosts Arkansas at 1pm est - Live Stats

All 6 should be good matches - some a little more high profile of course. I like Georgia at home 4-3 with Singh, Doumbia, Pasha, & Pieters winning in singles. If Chris Thiemann doesn't play I'll also take Georgia in dubs which would make it 5-2. The Florida/Kentucky match should be close. Only obvious singles courts I see are Quigley over VOB and Alford over Roberts/Jha. I'll take Miss State over UT 4-3 with Miss State winning at 3-6.

Unfortunately, Federhoffer looks like he will play 6 over Alford. I know Andy does a good job, but I have no clue how you decide to sit Alford in favor of Federhoffer.

UFs best singles lineup is: VOB, Carleton, Slilam, Newman, Diep, Alford

Today's lineup: VOB, Slilam, Newman, Carleton, Diep, Federhoffer

I think we lose 2-5 today (dubs & Carleton). I would bet my lineup would go 4-3 one way or the other vs Kentucky.

Tennessee with 4 1st sets. Chaudry and White got MSU's 2 1st sets. Trend today seems to be lose the doubles point and win 4 1st sets.

Singh was up 4-2 in the 3rd on Thiemann but is now serving to stay in the match at 4-5. Pieters just gave the break back and it's now 2 all. Dawgs need 1 courts; Rebs need them both

Correct, Chris Thiemann didn't play. I still would have liked Pieters chance against Thiemann but Backstrom playing Pasha at 6 would have been more of a contest than Pasha saw again Ole Miss's #7
