I have always wondered why women play 3 sets, and men 5.

Its not like women don't have the stamina, runners still do the same distances.

I never enjoy women's tennis as much as mens, because just as it gets going, its finishing... you never get the really long gritty tight games like in the mens.

It seems like the tennis profession is sexist here to me.

It's only at the slams buddy boy... And it's sexist against the men since they make the same money, we've been over this (WTF are the grand slams thinking) See my idea on Petition to the Grand Slams.

Aaaah well here in the UK I never get to see anything other than the big 4... actually if we're luck. So I've never seen any of the smaller tounrey's

I totally agree though they should change!... all should be 3 sets, a lot can happen in the extra set!

I'm surprised they earn the same money... very surprised!

If women should be treated equally as men, then how about this: I can enter women's tournaments. I would be a millionaire in no time.

As for you entering a women's tourney... I assume your female?... if not then thats just obsurd.

No! Keep the women's tennis at 3sets. That way the early rounds drubbings aren't protracted. Imagine also how sloppy the play would be at 4 all in the 5th set w/ WTA players barely holding serves and hitting more errors than winners (excepting the top 8 players)

No 5 sets women matches please! Watching a women tennis match in 2 sets is already so boring, why should we prolong the torture?

It doesn't really make sense to do that. The matches would still have end results similar to 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.

No, I'm obviously not female, or else I'd already be a pro. As far as men go, I'm a pretty mediocre player though, and would be hard-pressed to get into most futures qualies. Why would I want to see more terrible tennis?

The womens pro tour isn't nearly deep enough to go 5 sets. There just isn't enough good players. All you see is the same players over and over and they could go 5 sets but your average player ranked 40 or 60 in the world couldnt do it....

And Blind, are you trying to kill these players. All should be 5 setters. Do you realize how much tennis these people play during the year. Its hard enough. I think the finals of all tournys should be 5 sets. Many tournys do use that.

Phil, you may doubt it, but when's the last time you've hit with a woman professional. There are thousands of guys in the world who would dominate them. I happen to be one of these guys, and I'm sure there are a few more on the boards judging by the posts about Cali futures and such.

A 5.0 junior I knew beat J-cap 8-3 two years ago in an exhibition, when she was back in her "prime." As for women's ability to stand 5 set matches, we need only look at the australian open, where the weather gets a little hot and the women can barely make it thourgh 4 rounds. Not sexist, just fact. remember Hingis almost passing out? Yet the men had already played 6 best of 5 setters, and were playing pretty tough the whole time.

I doubt you'd bring in as many rabid fans (i.e., money) to watch as the Williams sisters do and besides, you wouldn't last two seconds on the court with them.

Never seen you play, Poot, but I HAVE seen the women play, and yes, a decent male futures or challenger player CAN beat most of them, but until YOU can deliver the goods, it's all just talk in my book. Since the only time you ever post is during one of these "male vs. female" discussions that pop-up semi regularly, I'm assuming you think you have something to prove against women players?

I DID play a former Stanford U. #3 (she'd graduated a few years earlier) and she was GOOD.

Maybe if the women cannot do the longer games, they should improve their stamina? Like I said at the start, they have just as much stamina as men. I still think 5 sets is the way to-go... saying pro's play too much tennis is a strange one, since they can decide when and where they play... they don't have to play EVERY tournament.
