Of all the endless praise in the press I like this line from Observer:

"Bollettieri might have taken the girl out of Siberia, but he had not taken Siberia out of the girl"

I've noticed this Pound Cat character is not the brightest person on this board.

Given Nick's penchant for endless selfpromotion, Nick will be the big winner this Wimbledon.

I meant on the grander scale Aus mosis. Maybe your semi-permeable membrane helps give you insight into obscure literary references. PS who is the brightest person on this board in your estimation new user? LOL

Pound cat, I'm in the "not too bright" category along with you.

I have some ideas what it may mean, based on my limited knowledge of Siberia, but I'm not sure. I don't think it's clear, but perhaps if we saw the quote in context, the meaning would be clear. :?:

So perhaps someone will provide the whole article, or will enlighten the unenlightened?

But then again, I only keep up with tennis to follow the cute players.

Now that was just too easy for us.

I figured it had some more in-depth meaning.

Thanks for explaining, though. It is a good line.

I was looking for something esoteric, maybe a clue as to the meaning of life or something. Oh well. LOL

well pound cat, if you were clever, you would see that i joined these new messageboards late march, meaning i have been doing plenty of reading, and minimal posting. So therefore i can see who on these boards are mentally capable, and who is not

Well, I guess I fall into the mentally incapable category then.

But I consider myself in good company.

And in any event, I have enough tech knowledge to post Maria photos in another thread.

So perhaps that will get me some bonus points.

The quote indicates that, despite having left the far reaches of Siberia at a young age, Sharapova still retains a wild, untameable, free-spirited steak, and is of strong mind and indomnitable will-much like those hardy folk who brave the long, cold Siberian winters. That could be it, or, possibly, I am talking out of my backside. Anyway, anyone who screams like that on the court is not "cool". Bjorn Borg defined "cool".

Naughty, naughty Aus mosis. It's not nice to insult people on this message board. Tsk tsk. Thanks for your interpretation Phil . I guess you would rank right up there with the bright lights. LOL Bright lights/Siberia/Aurora Borealis (get it, A-m?) he he he .
