I don't know what the head to head record is for these two girls but I like Maria in 3 sets. Please take the poll.:)

Interesting, they've never played before. I still think Maria in straights.

Elena won't have much left in those long tan, muscular legs. Maria will take it in two sets.

I don't think you know Elena's capabilities. I have seen her expend more energy and spend just as long on the court, come out the following day and win another 3 setter. She is one of the fittest players, male or female. She is amazing. However, if Maria plays like she did against Hingis she will beat Elena.

Actually, Elena's forehand is her bigger groundstroke.

Sharapova in straight sets. Dementieva will get nervous and throw her serve up to her knees. Also, Dementieva doesn't have the same level of experience and confidence as Sharapova.

FWIW, I love Dementieva's game, excepting the serve. She's an extraordinary athlete. But, with that serve...YIPERS!

I concur with the analogy. Several times I've seen Elena on the ropes. After the fourth double-faults she appears to be ready to tap out. Lo and behold she gets off the ropes. Put the forehand in gear and emerge the victor.

If I were a betting man I would not bet the house against Elena Dementieva.

Dementieva has great shorts and legs to go with, but I see Sharapova in 2. But everything's possible.

I am rooting for Elena to win. However, that said, her service game is too unreliable and shaky for her to prevail. But strange can and have happened.
