its commonly stated that the grip should be big enough that your index finger can fit in between your fingers and palm.

so i automatically bought a 4 5/8 grip thinking this was correct. but then today i fit with a 4 1/2 grip and the racquet felt more like a toy. and i say that in a good way. it felt more manueverable, i could spin the racquet better, and i got more torque on my shots, im seriously considering switching to a 4 1/2 grip size.

    is this a smart choice?

what are the advantages of a small vs big grip?

I know measurement wise using the tennis warehouse picture, my grip would be 4 7/8, but I use 4 1/2...I too bought a 4 5/8 and used an overgrip on top, but I had trouble serving. I tried my dads 4 1/2 and my serves were much better, the smaller grip allowed me to pronate my wrist much more easily..I now use 4 1/2 with 1 overgrip and really like how that feels now...

You should switch if you like it better and it sounds like you do. That's basically it.
