The incident that happened in the final today was eerie and utterly shocking. For a moment I thought of back when i was a kid and Monica Seles got stabbed in the back an her career cruelly derailed. The French Open security guards were embarrassingly slow to react, that guy should never have been allowed to even get NEAR Federer. And lucky for them (and all of us tennis fans) there was no bodily harm intended... Can you just imagine God forbid that someone had been able to harm Roger Federer on Court in the middle of an all-important Grand Slam Final? This then begs the question, should Roger go the route of Tiger Woods and employ his own bodyguard/s at tennis events from here on? With the French now elevating his profile in Tennis and World Sport even further (as if that were even possible, but im sure it has) surely he has to now realize there are people out there would would want to see his career come to a premature end? Surely he can no longer rely only on the security provided at these tournaments, and take precautions for his own safety? I speak as a Federer fan and a tennis fan and someone who was deeply shocked by what happened on court today, even though it turned out not to be as serious as it could have been.
