Shoudl there be one tournament on the tennis calendar which features the top players in the world and an FA Cup-style draw. I use the example of the FA Cup because I'm English. Basically, the FA Cup is a football(soccer) tournament in which all the teams in England take part, but there are no seeded teams, so anyone can play anyone at any stage of the competition. So a blind draw:
    a) Do you think players would be up for it?
    b) Would you, as fans, want to see it? Imagine seeing Federer-Nadal in the first round

I'd like it personally. But there's too much money and ranking points involved I think. A guy like Berdych won't like it if he faces Nadal first round, while Almagro makes the final on a fast hardcourt without facing a top 10 player.

The problem here is that tournaments would want their money makers, the marquee players to stay in the event as long as possible for tickets sales and ratings. While we could have some blockbuster first rounds, the tournament could quickly head south if too many upsets happen in the first or second round.

I take your wider point but the statment in bold isn't correct. The FA Cup draw might not be seeded but it's not the free draw you make it out to be - EPL and Chamopinship clubs don't enter until the 3rd round.
