I would assume this is a record for men and women.

Federer's longest streak is 8 years at the Australian Open, Nadal's is 5 years at the French Open, Djokovic's is 6 at the Australian Open, Sampras' longest was 8 years at Wimbledon.

Connors either won or lost to eventual champion at the U.S. Open every year from 1973 to 1985 except 1981, 12 of 13 years.

Evert had a streak of 10 consecutive years at Wimbledon.

Lendl's record at the USO is impressive, despite several painful losses in the finals. He did much better than Borg did, certainly! If memory serves, he lost finals to Connors (2), Mac (1), Wilander (1) and Becker (1). That's a Murderer's Row, on almost any surface.

Actually Evert's record duplicates Connors as well. Her streak begins in 1973 with her first final and continues through to 1983 with Jordan loss, but she then loses to the eventual winner in 1984,1985, loses to finalist Mandlikova in 1986 for 12 of 13 in a row. Matter of fact of the 18 times she entered the tournament only 4 times did she either not beat or lose to the eventual champion. 1972 loss to finalist Goolagong, and 1988 loss to finalist Martina round out the total. She's got one stat better than these others. Only once in her career there, has she not been a finalist, or played a finalist. Its the same for both. Look at the caliber of opponent, it took to keep them from winning!

That's quite a list of tennis legends who defeated him there.
