That is exactly what I think - $150 is insane for something that doesnt last very long. I do have a pair of mostly black Nike Air Max for running. I only paid $79 for those on sale - amazing shoes too.

Around here, winter tennis and almost all league tennis is indoors. So we can go all black attire without the heat issue.

I do agree that I don't want my black dress to look like a ball gown.

I tried this one below, by Yonnex, but I just didn't like it and figured I could do better. Just gotta be patient . . .

Regarding the black shoes, I'm all set:

Those black Prince shoes are very nice. I dont like Prince shoes but I may have to make an exception to rock the Darth look.

Oh, yes. The black shoes make a big statement.

We gotta get more chicks buying the black shoes so they don't get discontinued.

Cindy -- who also gets lots of compliments on her grey and yellow Prince T22s

    Ho, boy.

I wore this dress today for an indoor match:

Got lots of compliments on it in the lobby. And then we took the court and I hit my first warm-up serve.

Now, the skirt didn't quite fly completely over my head, but it was close. I am so glad nobody was behind me, because they were getting the Full Eye-full.

Still, it was really cool to wear. I just need to adjust those adjustable straps to make it a bit longer next time . . . .

    a bargain

I bought this dress on sale. The quality is not great (the Tail dresses are the best in terms of quality and fabric, I think), but the cut is beautiful. It doubles as a sun dress, so you can go straight from tennis to lunch at the Sunset Tower.

    this one:

    http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3968034

(I tried to upload a photo but I'm new & can't post attachments yet, I think.)

I own a couple of the dresses discussed here -- this is a useful thread! I'd like to upload photos of the fit (serena's orange 2010 AO dress -- which fits ok but can make even a slender girl look big in the hips -- and the Tail dress de Brito wore in the first round of wimbledon -- which fits much better than it looked on de brito) but I'll have to wait until I can post attachments.

Serena's AO orange 2010 dress terrifies me. It is a beautiful color, but it has that white bib thingie over the boob area. I, uh, don't see the point.

the white boob thing is less than desirable, but not totally awful, especially if you have boobs to emphasise. worse, though, is the way the skirt is cut. I have skinny little hips and somehow it makes me look like a HIPoppotamus. (I wonder if it's better cut for someone with more hips?) The dress would be nicer if it were entirely white. (But for a yellow dress, I really like the orangey yellow color -- it doesn't make you look like big bird. I'm a pale blonde and the color is just fine for me.)

No, the bib is not helping. It would be flattering on larger hips, though. I never got around to trying this one. I think I'm just going to put Nike on my list of Dresses To Ignore because they never fit right. Too tight in weird places, and too inconsistent across the Nike line.

That Ralph Lauren dress is stunning. I don't like the quality of their products though. They used to have nice quality but now everything seems to be made by the worst of the low cost factories and it is a pity too since the design work is quite nice. I remember when I was younger getting Fila tennis clothes that were made in Italy, those were the days!

I agree, Nike has a weird fit. And the material of that Polo dress is not very nice. (The cut of the polo dress is lovely, but I think it's the last ralph lauren sport I'll buy. I wear it only when I have someplace to go after tennis.)

here's an item to avoid (the skirt jarmila groth was wearing at both wimbledon and french open):

    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/lacoste/descpage.html?pcode=LWSPLS

it's about an inch or two too short, the white is see-through, and it comes without built-in shorties, so in addition to the outrageous $75 price, you've got to buy an extra pair of little shorts. (I know this thread is about dresses only, but the skirt looked so darling on TV that I must WARN YOU all against it.)

^Oh, dear. They want that kind of money and it's just a skirt? I will never understand what makes Lacoste stuff worth the prices they charge.

I think this dress would look great on me (assuming there's room in the hips), but I will not pay $145 for it. Call me when it is on sale for $35.

That looks like a very forgiving cut for a variety of body types.

I wish the manufacturers would produce these white dresses in colors despite the fact that it is Wimbledon time. I mean, if you have a white dress, it's awfully hard to open your wallet to justify another white dress.

If you already own red, blue, green, teal, salmon, black and orange, it's easy to justify a new dress purchase in a gorgeous purple. Am I right, ladies?

I have this dress and it looks awesome! I get so many compliments and my fiance loves it on me. The white bib and the flared skirt look great if you have a small waste, small boobs, and an athletic build. I also have the blue French Open Serena dress and the Sharapove purple wrap dress. I recommend all three!

The Nike Serena Wimbledon dress comes in black. I plan on getting it and the white Sharapova dress. Ever since I got my first tennis dress, I've become a nut and have to get them all! If you want your man to notice you, wear a tennis dress!

    Dear Sian,

It is quite clear to me that if you can rock the blue French Open Serena dress, you have a slammin' body. And you say you can bust out in Sharapova-ware also?

You are in a totally different league from the rest of us mere mortals. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to Make The Men Drool.

Me, I'll live vicariously, if it's all right with you. :)

Cindy -- off to go have a second look at that orange Serena dress

OK, I tracked down the last orange Serena dress in North America. On sale, at an undisclosed internet retailer. Not an amazing price, but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I'll let you know how it looks. I'm a little nervous. I'm no Sian, after all . . . .

cindy, I know that undisclosed internet retailer! and they had the best sale price of them all (about $20 cheaper than tw) but they only had one size left.

I think you're going to like the yellow dress. It's flowy and flirty.

I loved the serena wimby dress too, but I'm afraid of nike now because the yellow one makes my little hips look big.

For some reason I feel contrived wearing the Sharapova outfits. Remember the dress that looked like a chicken I mean tutu? I found that dirt cheap at a pro shop but just couldnt make myself buy it. Maybe I am getting old because I used to always wear whatever NIke designed for Mary Pierce back when she was playing.

Those designs tended to more of an athletic cut though...the things Sharapova wears hardly looks like athletic wear at all anymore. And personally, I don't think they even flatter her all that well anymore, and she's the one they are designed for!

I like the wimby/black Serena dress that just came out myself...pondering it in the black, though I do already have a black tennis dress.

I believe Cindy is married, and flirting is exactly how almost all affairs start -- which may directly contradict the Biblical wisdom against (1) indulging in temptation by (2) coveting thy neighbor’s wife’s (3) ***. Hence the triple combo Commandment violation. :)

    Hold the phone!

Look what just popped up in the sale section of TW, for the low low price of $15, in my size?

I guess it pays to check the sale section of TW obsessively, pining for the dress that got away. I'll let ya know how this one fits. If I have to return it, one of you guys can snap it up. :)

It is pretty plain, but I like it...just don't wear it much. I don't remember the brand name...but it wasn't a well known one. I like that is has adjustable straps on it, and slits on the side. I think I have a pic of me wearing it somewhere...will see if I can dig it up.

I think it is good to be tall for both the Serena and Sharapova dresses. I'm 5'8 and 1/2 inches and I feel like the cut of the orange dress, (I think it's more yellow), gives you real curvy figure and if you don't have wide hips, people will know because the skirt tends to fly up and you can see your compression shorts. The Wimbeldon dress doesn't flare as much, but has an adorable ruffle on the bottom, and the Sharapova dress has a cute wrap dress cut.

I'm working on keeping them drooling :)

Ok Preston, we'll have to do a little photo shoot on vacation so people can see how cute these dresses are. :)

Preston is the one who picked out the French Open Sharapova dress and my friend Tony picked the yellow Serena dress with the matching balisitics for me.

It's good to have guys opions when you shop for dresses. Although Tony wanted me to get the mesh overlay Sharapova dress. It was really cute, but totally non-functional and didn't look athletic at all, but I may get it anyways because it's on sale.

Have any of you checked out the dresses from Title Nine Sports? Most of the ones on their site are for everyday wear, but there are a couple that I think would work for tennis, though I might want to hem them a little.

Also, I saw Jankovic on the Tennis Channel a last week. They were showing some tournament from last year. It looked like her dress was by Avia, and I loved it. Of course I can't find any Avia tennis apparel anywhere anymore. My two favorite tennis skirts are Avia, and I think I bought them both here.
