Aaahhh, thanks. I must have misread it. I'll have to check them out, because I really liked her dress.

What happened to Avia? You guys had some really cute clothes from them, and the prices were very good.

    My Serena dress arrived!!!

I bolted upstairs to try it on, and I am having something of a problem.

Sian is right that it is gorgeous. The color is akin to egg yolk or school bus. I wouldn't call it a true yellow, and it is perfect for my coloring. It nips in nicely at the waist and then flares, which is a good cut for me. Length is decent -- not too long or too short.

But of course there is a problem: The chest. I do not consider myself flat-chested, but I can't get anywhere close to filling this thing up!

First I tried with a regular jog bra underneath (which is what I would normally do). The cups on the shelf bra flattened and bunched, leaving unattractive creases. That, coupled with that awful thing Nike does where the cups of the shelf bra have a ridge along the outside, and I was looking Seriously Lumpy.

Then I tried it with just the shelf bra. Still couldn't fill the thing up.

Then I switched to a couple of different athletic bras. No dice.

I suspect I will have to cut the shelf bra out of it and hope like heck it looks right when I am through. If not, I will have paid for a dress I can't return.

Part of me wonders if I should have a smaller size, but this one is a medium and I have never, ever worn Nike in anything smaller than that. Plus, I don't want the thing too tight -- that is just a sad look. Then again, it feels a bit loose in the shoulders and armpits so maybe it does run big . . .

I have to think about this one . . .

Cindy...if cutting out the shelf bra doesn't work and you want to get rid of it, let me know! ;)

Also...why won't you call it yellow? (remember the previous dicussion?) Is not a school bus..yellow? And an egg yolk...yellow?!? LOL

I say it's a cross between pumpkin orange and sunshine yellow.

    Call it yellorangeow.

    Ahem. I'm sending it back.

Bottom line is that if the fit on something like this isn't perfect, it's not worth doing. This dress was over $50, and at that price I shouldn't have to tailor it or hack at it with scissors.

    I guess there'll be another yellow/orange dress someday . . .

Oh, I thought you had said you couldn't send it back?

Well, then yes, for that much, if it doesn't work, send it back.

DTL has a nice yellow dress out right now, it is featured in the women's vlog. I really like the shape of it.

Topaz, I did have my eye on that DTL dress:

I think that crisscross strap would be very flattering, and the color looks nice in yellow.

Trouble is, there is a funky design on the front. Trimmed in studes:

Too bad. Had they left it plain it would have been really elegant and I would have jumped on it.

from a guy's perspective, that dress is slick. A shame, could go without the racquet studs. The background print is sufficient

Sometimes it's worth $15 to have a good laugh.

I ordered this in size medium. They only had one left:

I knew there might be trouble. Here it is on Dementieva:

Um . . . It's, erm, interesting. First, my initial take on this dress (that the straps would rest on my carotid artery) was correct. Ho boy. The little loop that your head and neck has to fit through is very tiny. I think I could get used to it, though. It does show off the shoulders and upper back, and these regions look OK on me, I think. Still, this would be the most naked I have ever been on a tennis court. (And notice how the front straps meet on Dementieva? A perfectly comfortable location. On me, the front straps sit above the collar bone. That doesn't make sense. If she's so much taller and bigger, shouldn't the straps be up to her chin?)

But of course there is a problem. You simply cannot wear any bra in this dress. There's no fabric on top except those two thin straps, all the way from the neck to below the armpits. If you wear any sort of bra, a large percentage will be plainly visible. And a bra changes the fit so that the top part of the dress is too loose and gaps in back.

OK, fine. I guess I'd have to go bra-less. I've seen worse fashion atrocities. But the bra in it is so loose -- maybe it has been tried on so many times that it is stretched out? So I would need to get it tailored to tighten the shelf bra back into a shelf bra.

I think I will keep it, though. If I spend $7 to send it back, then I will only net $8 back into my wallet. No point in that. I'll either get it altered, give it to someone who is built like Dementieva, or save it for Halloween. I'd be willing to spend some money to get it altered, because the color is pretty and it really is one-of-a-kind.

How come the studded design is layered on top of the other design on the white dress, but they seem not to be layered on the yellow dress?

    That's just bizarre...

Just what I need, little studs poking me in the breasts. You know how some folks wear a rubber band and snap themselves as a behavior modification strategy? I could just poke myself in the breast every time I netted a forehand...

    OK, the Yonex dresses came.

I put on the black one and sought the opinion of my 16-year-old daughter. The conversation went something like this:

    "What do you think?"

"OMG! Mom, that is *fierce.* You look like you're going to totally kick someone's *** wearing that dress!"

    "Such *language!"*

Yeah, it's a keeper. The fabric is a lighter weight than it looks in the picture. The fit is demanding -- one hoagie and I won't be able to pull it off. Still, everything about this dress is awesome. The neckline and straps show off the shoulders, the wrap skirt wraps far enough around that I won't be flashing anyone, the textured pattern of the fabric looks expensive, the little gold threading at the neck is cute. And it is a bit shorter than the other Yonex dresses I have, which a short gal like me appreciates.

Far and away the best dresses I've ever tried on. I will probably keep them both (and hide one from my husband!). :)

Cindy, it was a good idea to return the yellowy serena dress -- I've had mine since march and haven't actually worn it on the court once! It was a good idea in theory, but the fit is funny (mine's fine in the boobs but huge in the hips).

wish that yonex dress came in white.

Cindy in order for us guys with a great eye for fashion to give you an honest opinion, we need to see the dress as it looks on you, could you pls post a pic (or several) of that? Without that its difficult to just imagine how it might look on you, and believe me I am trying to imagine that very hard.

Ha! Nope, sorry. You're going to have to use your imagination!

Inga, I wonder why Yonex didn't introduce a white Wimbledon dress. Yeah, Dementieva was injured, but don't they have anyone else wearing their clothing?

A friend recently gave me the blue Adidas Adilibria dress from last year, I think. It fits well, but it doesn't do a thing for my figure. In fact, it might be aggressively working against me! I'm keeping it, though, because it fits well, it's extremely comfortable, and so lightweight I hardly know it's there. No tugging or adjusting straps... Plus, the color matches my Interclub team's colors.

I think a couple of people had tried this dress and given up on it before it came to me. I don't feel too bad that it's not so flattering, because I remember seeing it on Anna Ivanovic, and thinking it didn't do much for her, either! IMO, any dress designed to "puddle" around the midsection should come in two sizes only: XS and XXS.

Here it is on Anna - she looks almost mortal in it!

Nice dress~ Isn't it convenient with the cups? I sent an email to Lululemon to ask them make tennis clothes. Most of the Lululemon tanks/tops come with the removable cups.

^^^ Store called Plato's Closet. It's like an upscale thrift store. They sell lots of AE, A & F, Hollister, etc. They don't take in anything that is in less than 8/10 condition. So it has to be in almost new condition usually.

Oh, wow. I could totally wear that pink Nike dress!

If your wife decides she doesn't want it, I get first dibs.

    Meanwhile, I found this:

The photo doesn't do it justice. It is trimmed in blue along the ruffles at the bottom and fits me perfectly. It is quite striking. Trouble is, I don't need 2 black dresses, and this one fits even better than the Yonex in black. What to do, what to do?

    A) You need to start posting pics of your wearing these dresses and let the audience decide!

    B) Sure they're two black dresses, but do they have different attitudes??

It does. It comes with a compression bra with removable cups. The compression bra is of such high quality that I can actually wear this without a sports bra. That, my friends, qualifies as a Minor Miracle.

I will debut this puppy tomorrow night in mixed doubles.

While we are on the subject . . .

    I tried this one also:

It was definitely my favorite, even better than the blue one. It looks like the same cut, right? Nope. Didn't fit at all. Just much smaller overall, to the point of being Too Small Overall. I had to send it back with much regret.

And I'll show you the other one that didn't work out at all:

Our team colors are purple and black, so I took a flier on this one. It was bad in so many ways. The biggest problem is that there is some lime green stripe along the sides. It evoked a circus tent -- not exactly what I had in mind.

What size of this one when you said too small? They do look like the same. Which brand is that as I don't see the logo on the dress?

a question for the ladies of the forum...

hi ladies, I am a male member of this forum, but I wanted to pose this question to the female members here...
I have noticed that a lot of women who play tennis in the dresses or even in the tank-tops that are made for tennis are wearing sports-bras underneath their top/dress. but I have read that most of the women's tennis apparel have "built-in support".

my question is this: why do so many women double-up on the support like what you see Caroline Wozniacki doing?

    Fair question.

In general, you don't want things moving around up there while you are playing. The built-in bras vary widely in how much they constrict and support. Women vary in how much support they want/need and how much constriction they can tolerate.

In my case, I will cut the built-in support out of a top or a dress. Then I can wear my own sports bras, which fit perfectly. I only cut the support out if it is bulky, wrinkly or otherwise shows through the dress. I would say most of the time I keep the built-in support and "double up," but this can get warm in hot weather.

They are both Tail dresses, both size small. Tail seems to classify its dresses as "classic cut" and "athletic cut," although I can't see any consistency in how they label their many styles. It's needlessly hit or miss. I do like Tail in general because their fabric and workmanship is consistently top notch.

Tail has come out with a number of dresses for fall. All are disappointing, IMHO. Such a pity.

thanks for clearing that up Cindy!
i've noticed, especially when I was in Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open, that many females still have "movement" up there even with Sports bras...
you can notice that just by watching Caro Wozniacki for a few minutes... sports bras don't really help her in the movement department, from what I have noticed...

Hey hey  a true gentleman does not look up there, while a lady is moving - especially not Wozniacki.....

    J.K. ;)

I will see Wozniacki play in a local tournament next week - hope to see some other good looking ladies and some good tennis also of course !

I mainly watch womens tennis to see some nice curves on the move

Bondarenkas perfect behind makes me dissy and Mirzas top makes me want to see her play a whole match :D

I think you will see movement in all ladies tops when ever they are larger than an A cup - no matter how tight a sportsbra they wear......
