Yeah, legitimate questions are fine, but the only drooling allowed is over The Ladies Of TT. :)

    Anyway, back on topic . . .

I am definitely going to wear the new black dress, but I'm nervous. What if I blow a seam or something? Funny thing. I can debut a new skirt or shirt without any trepidation, but dresses are not to be trusted.

Why not just stuff another skirt/top into your bag, and that way you are assured that if your dress rips or otherwise bothers you that you can just duck out and change it after the game.

I always keep a spare pair of shorts and a few shirts in my bag, and extra shoelaces incase I rip one.

It is like that extra racquet that you never need to use but just knowing it is there is comfortable.

Yeah, I'll probably do that. Better, perhaps, would be to stop worrying that a brand new dress is going to suddenly shred on break point.

Hey, remember when Serena Williams was playing a match wearing some cute dress, but the ribbon on the dress near the neck bothered her so much that she ripped it off during a changeover? Was it that same beautiful pink dress someone snagged for $15? I think it might have been!

that's hilarious (serena ripping off the ribbon).

cindy, maybe fear-of-seam-unraveling is why you need two black dresses!

The only 2 ladies I know that look good in tennis dresses are Kana and Tiffany from TW. The ones in my club are disgusting

I really love the cute white wimbledon dress that ana ivanovic is (still) wearing. seen here on ana, today:

and then here it is on tw:

    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/adidas_Womens_Fall_adilibria_Dress/descpageWAADIDAS-AWFADD.html#

does anyone own that dress? can anyone tell me about the quality/fit? I'm also concerned about the contrast paneling -- is it really that noticeable a contrast? I like my clothes very, very simple. anyone have firsthand knowledge before I consider a purchase?

the ladies at my club range in age from 18 to 88, and they all look darling in their tennis dresses -- absolutely darling. And some of the older ladies are the cutest and best dressed of all.

I feel so bad for you ladies stuck in the same dress for entire matches in the summer.

My friend has a court at her house, and we play about 1x week, this has been an absolutely brutal summer for us heat wise (probably no bargain for you mid atlantians either) and I just pull on a nice clean dry shirt between sets, and she is stuck in that drowned dress for the 2nd set too.

You have a point. I wore a tennis dress on a super-hot and humid day once. The entire dress was soaked after 3 hours in the heat, to the point of little droplets coming down the front onto the court. Blech. It wasn't a good look, but it didn't bother me. What will bother me is if any skirt that is too long gets soaked. Then I feel like I am wearing a beach towel.

Anyway, I wore the cute dress tonight. And I won and played very well. I felt inspired.

So that's it then. Dresses rock, and dresses help you win! :)

Cindy -- currently washing the Little Black Dress to wear it again as soon as possible

Funny how one good win can put an article of clothing in the lucky category.

I am currently invincible in my orange Federer henleys.

Since I wear all black 90% of the time, I will probably keep this winning streak going for a while.

This probably deserves its own thread but . . .

Once I lose in an outfit, it is thereafter a Loser Outfit. It is embarrassing how superstitious I am about what I wear on the court.

Oh, wow. Are you referring to the white version of this:

Man, that is slick! I don't generally like pink, but I could make an exception for that.

Here's the side view, which would be the biggest difficulty for me. I think it might just be the only clothing Adidas has made that might have some room in the hips:

Just gorgeous. Can you imagine this with black shoes? Yummy.

yes, cindy, that's the one. I'll wait for it to go on sale (not likely until ana's done wearing it all summer and into the fall) and I will report back! I'm not convinced about the contrasting panels, so can't bring myself to pay full price.

    I LOVE talking about dresses.

    Guess what?

My team gave me a little gift -- a gift certificate to TW. How much? It would be vulgar to say. :) It was a very nice thought, and I can't wait to go shopping!

On Monday, I am ordering that pink dress. I thought about it all night. I'll let you know how it fits and what the panels look like, Inga.

Uh oh. That pic of Hantuchova is scary. I mean, that woman is as skinny as they come, and that dress is far from baggy on her.

Well, I guess I had better prepare myself from major disappointment. I've never found a dress or skirt from Adidas that fit me. I was thinking that all of those panels would help me, but I guess there's only one way to find out . . .

Do the pros have their dresses custom made? It's hard to believe that the same dress that looks good on a top athlete can be marketed well to the rec player, and rec players are the ones who buy nice tennis dresses.

    Houston, we have a problem.

Here's a pic from the adidas web site:

Did they really do the skirt in Pepto Bismal Pink? Please tell me this is an optical illusion. I want no part of this dress if it is two-tone like that.

addidas is losing the plot! (I read in another thread that they're putting ana in a catsuit for spring 2011 -- is that a joke?)

that pink is unforgivable. so much nicer in the tw photos.

(at the moment I'm watching the bank of the west final -- it could be subtitled Pretty Girls In Ugly Clothes -- nike, in its sharapova line, is also losing the plot.)

Inga, I *dare* you to buy the Suspender Dress. I double-dare you!

Can you imagine? It's like they thought of everything that can be uncomfortable or unflattering in tennis attire and wrapped it up in one dress. Let's see. We have long, thin straps. A belt. A heavy, pleated skirt. And . . . do my eyes deceive me? Are those exterior pockets?

The best part will be that delicious spot on the abdomen where the shirt (you're supposed to wear a flippin' shirt with this dress, right?) and the compression shorts meet.

I think if I called them and placed an order, they'd say, "Oh, ma'am. That dress was the design department's idea of a little joke. We weren't thinking anyone would actually *buy* it. Can we interest you in a complimentary pair of socks for your trouble?"

^^^ Maybe it would be good to wear when fixing up things around the house.

I have a tool belt from Sears that looks similar to that thing. Hang a hammer and a couple of screwdrivers off of it, put your plaid flannel shirt under it, and you are ready to do some sheetrock work.

Give it to me straight, 10sbune:

Is it closer to the TW picture or the Adidas picture?

It takes a lot to make me wear pink . . . .

Oh, and how generous is it in the hips?

    Thanks, Inga!

I can see that I'm in trouble already. That model was crazy-thin. Completely butt-less (not that there's anything wrong with that). I don't think someone with a butt is going to be able to wedge into that dress. :(

I can also understand your concern about the mesh panels on the white dress. It might be too much. We shall see.

Cindy - the color is closer to the TW pix; the Adidas pix are definitely off. The real scoop is that the dress fits very nice thru the bust, can be a little snug in the abdomen area and will show a muffin top.....it flairs a little just below the waist so it is not at all snug in the hips nor backside. The vlog showing the white version makes it seem like that mesh is see-through; but on the pink version the mesh is not see through at all; it's just a part of the fabric design. I wore my white Adidas visor and shoes; not sure I would like black shoes with the dress.

I love, love, love it! but, I also love pink.....looks great on me and I'm only 5'2." IMO

OK, I'll keep my fingers crossed. It should arrive today.

Meanwhile, Nike is tempting me again. Maria Sharapova dress:

Hmmm. No shelf bra, seems to have ample room in the hips (and the arm holes!). I dunno . . . .

And then there is this new one from Nike:

This one has a really aggressive, athletic look to it. I think it would be neat to have in the black. The white stripe on the upper hip would be nice, and there's lots of room in back.

Then again, my success rate with Nike dresses is running about 0%, so why would this one be any different? Do I really want to go to war with yet another Nike shelf bra? I guess I should pass. :(

I'm going to have to go sort through my closet...

...but I think I have a lovely little seersucker number that is just too, too devastating. Just kidding! I actually wear cut-off jeans and a wife beater shirt! Just kidding again! However, maybe I won't be if I decide the only chance I have to make it through the US Open Qualifying 2011 is by wearing a blonde wig and one of Maria Sharapova's castoffs...

Inga, you were right to be concerned about the mesh panels. They are more noticeable than they were in the picture.

I tried this one on several times, struggling to figure out what the problem was with it. The fit is OK, although the medium is probably a tad big on me. The cut is nice.

The problem is the fabric. If you're going to make something in white, you have no color to help you make it striking. The fabric on this dress is very ordinary and doesn't do anything for me.

I have the pink one coming, so maybe it will work better if the color is nice. 'Tis a pity.

I bought my first dress at the Rogers Cup. The regular price is $60 and I got it for 20% off. I need to find a white compression short somewhere as I don't want to pay $35 for a Nike short at the Rogers Cup.
Cindy, you are right. The fabric is kind of thin so I don't want it too tight. The style is very nice and it fits me well. I also like the Fila dress but I couldn't find my size.

Cindy, it's so very very helpful to have you confirm my suspicions about the paneling on the white addidas!

I like plain dresses, so I might try it when it goes on sale. (my concern with the noticeable paneling is that is might be too much contrast, and I like dresses as plain and simple and classic as possible.)

also, now that topaz reminds me, I am going to invest in the bolle shorts.

    CrystalClear,

Nice to hear of your purchase. I'm still waiting for my pink one to arrive, then I'll decide what to do. I've seen the Adidas white dress on a couple of pro players recently, and it looks very good on all of them. Do check in once you've played a match in it and tell us how it performs.

Inga, yes those Bolle compression shorts are the best I have found, although I admit I haven't tried anything else for a while now.

what is wrong with this Cindy? Ok perhaps you can take issue with the belt or the pockets, but the main construction and shape look fantastic.

I dont think it needs to be worn with a shirt or anything else, looks fine as it is. Might get a bit of a draft if there is some wind, but nothing that would offend a gentleman.

Had a chance to check out the Adilibria and Nike dresses in person this past weekend at Cincy. The Adilibria fabric is sooo nice. They had the Serena Nike Wimbledon dress there in black, but not in my size (booo). The new Maria dress is very cute, and again, really nice fabric.

Are you thinking of getting one of these, Topaz? Which one?

I put on six pounds -- yes, six -- during my beach vacation. You sit around on your behind 24/7 eating carmel corn and Boardwalk Fries and that's what happens.

None of my dresses will look right until I lose every ounce, so they are hanging in the closet until further notice. :(
