    Current WTA Ranking: 40

How do you rate her chances of breaking into the top 20/10 this year?

    WTA wrote:
'Peng Shuai, one of three Chinese players in the Top 50 of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Singles Rankings, announced on New Year's Day a brand new partnership with world-renowned tennis coach Tarik Benhabiles, as she begins taking her game to the next level. The pair began training last month in Florida, and they will continue to work together full-time throughout 2009.'

    Benhabiles said:
"She is a girl of destiny and I expect her to be in the top group of the rankings by year's end."

    Thanks!

don't think she have any major weapon to break into top 20/10.

Yeah I suppose, but I think these chinese girls have the drive and mental stability to compete in the last 16/8 of GS's.

you need both mentality and weapon to go deep in majors.

Yeah, I've watched some videos of her on youtube, and she seems to hit too many errors.
She could win them tight match's with a few less errors.

there you go, she should cut down on UE before she can even talk about getting into top 20/10.

Even Zheng Jie also can't make it into Top 20/10 despite the lack of depth of WTA, what makes her think she can climb into top 20???

Well with the likes of Chakvetadze and Bartoli in there, then I definately think that Li Na and Zheng Jie (who are ranked 23 and 25) should be able to break in very soon.

Also, Hantuchova should slip down the rankings after the Austrailian Open as I doubt she could even make the 3rd/4th round.

    :) I like the double handed forehand, and i'm quite good at it, but if I used it I'd probably be laughed at ^^;

Ok, I think that she could be top 25 by year's end at least, but she has to cut down on unforced errors and get fitter, as well as avoid the injury bug.

Saw her destroy Clisters a couple of years ago and expected good things, ironically I heard she is blaming her errors on bad Feng Shui....

    Haha, could be true...?
But she has alot of talent, and I expect her to win a few tier 4's or maybe a tier 3 this year..

Indeed, it was in 2005, when Clijsters was really outstanding during the US Open series and also won the USO. I remember Clijsters saying after that match that Peng was playing like a top3-player

i saw her play at sydney medi bank today but she lost. She was up against Kuznetsova and won the first set 6-3 i think then lost the last 2 sets 0-6 3-6 (something like that). I was pretty impressed cus she hit a few winners and an amazing 6 aces (more than kuzzy) and she has quite a big serve compared to most chinese women some of her serves were near 190kmph.

The problem with her is that she hit a lot of balls into the middle and a lot of balls which were too short and attackable. She needs to work on getting it deep which is like one of her worst problem. and getting the ball more accurate into the angles as well as reducing errors which she improved a lot lately.

Peng is rather weak. I saw her play last year against other top WTA players and she got owned pretty bad.

Zheng Jie is the one who got the best chance to crack the top 20. If she can make it to another quarter in a Slam this yr...

Russian fifth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova dropped the opening set before recovering to oust China's Peng Shuai, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in another first-round encounter.
