    Hey guys,

I love very thin co-polys and I'm just wondering about the differences between these two diameters of the Tornado. Are they somehow different or do they play the same, in terms of tension stability, comfort and feel?

I'm currently using Scorpion 1.22 and although I really like it, I just want something a bit more crisp.

By the way, I'm planning to use Tornado in the mains only( crosses will be strung with Scorpion, since I love its performance ). Two racquets of mine are already strung with Tornado 1.23 and I'll be trying Tornado 1.17 next.

    TIA

If you have any tornado left, ill send you a set of tour bite 17 for one, that is one of the most crisp, poppy polys around with #1 rated spin potential and decent maintenance.

    Hey airman,

I have a reel of tornado 1.17. I will swap you a set for the tour bite if you want.

Can anyone compare the strung tensions they would recommend for tornado as compared to tour bite or typhoon. I strung typhoon and tour bite at 57.5/59, probably will drop my future tension of typhoon to 56.5/58 and tour bite to about 54/56 or even lower maybe.

What would tornado be at in comparison to these two, closer to typhoon or tour bite based on power level?

dadozen have u put the tornado in if so at what tension? or if anyone else has used this which tension did you use it at?

is it better at higher 50's or lower 50's?

I have tried both 1.17 and 1.23 gauges of Tornado although in different racquets.
I did not find any major differences at all, but tornado is one of the least durable polys i have tried.
So if your string pattern is not super tight i would suggest 1.23

I've playtested Tornado 1.23 this weekend @ 52 lbs( with Scorpion 1.22 @ the same tension on crosses ) and although I liked it, I felt it was too powerful, and didn't feel a big difference in spin.

I'll go back to hyperion 1.18 on mains.

I think that is what the RSI ratings said. I agree with you though.

How old is the update on those ratings? Because even the barbwire from Solinco has more spin than that

What do you mean "even" barb wire has more spin than that? I thought BW was supposed to have enormous spin, please tell if you've tried a string with more spin then that.

I don't think he meant it like that. I think he meant to stress the fact that it isn't EVEN the most spinny string from Solinco.

How about the original question? I posted a rave about Tornado 1.23 and eagerly awaited my Tornado 1.17, which went into a different YT Pro Prestige as soon as the string arrived. To my shock horror and disappointment, it was like a completely different string - less power and less comfort - similar to Pro Line II 1.15 or Tour Bite. I thought I had my two Prestige Pros matched, but I have since tinkered with the one strung with Tornado 1.17 to see if a racquet difference explains the way the string played. The thinner Tornado had better bite, but if the difference in comfort and power are in the string, not my racquet setup, then I will go back to the 1.23. After I test the stick after tinkering, I will string 1.23 where I now have 1.17 and 1.17 where I first had 1.23. I will let you know, but that will be about 10 days down the road.

same string type but different gauge yields different play...

If your statement wasn't true, there wouldn't be different gauges of strings available.

^^ Not a huge difference in playability, just a few different attributes.

I get that different gauges play differently, but I did not expect a thinner string to be more stiff than its thicker sibling. I suspect differences between my two Prestige Pros is confounding my experience. I will string the reverse setups and see what happens (ie - 1.23 in the one I tested the 1.17 in and 1.17 in the original test racquet).
