It's great to see Simona Halep of Romania, the Roland Garros junior 2008 champion, coming into her own in the WTA ranks, by getting to two consecutive finals on both clay and grass and already winning one of them

'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands - Two players on a roll are the last two standing at the Topshelf Open, as Kirsten Flipkens and Simona Halep stormed through their semifinal matches on Friday.

Watch Eastbourne & 's-Hertogenbosch all week on WTA Live powered by TennisTV!

Halep won first, falling behind 3-1 in the first set but then reeling off seven games in a row to take total control against Carla Suárez Navarro, eventually finishing the No.3-seeded Spaniard off, 63 62.

"I was a little bit nervous at the beginning and she went up 3-1 in the first set, but from there I really tried my best and was just focusing on every point," Halep said after the match. "I had to be focused because she's a difficult player for me, and I'm very happy I was able to beat her in the end."

Halep is on an impressive run, winning 15 of her last 17 matches, including qualifying rounds.

"I played a lot of good matches with good players in Rome, and after that tournament I felt more and more confident," Halep said. "I've been feeling very good about everything, not just mentally, but also physically. I've been believing in my game a lot and playing more aggressively, and that's all."

Even more impressively, Halep won Nürnberg on clay last week, and is now in another final on grass.

"It's not easy even just to play on grass after playing so many matches on clay," Halep said. "So for me to be in the final this week, I'm really happy about it. I'm feeling good and playing well too."

It didn't take long for Flipkens to follow her into the final, as the No.4-seeded Belgian was never broken - she only faced one break point - and cruised past Spanish qualifier Garbiñe Muguruza, 63 61.

"The score was more easy than the match," Flipkens said. "In the first set there was only one break, and she's a really talented player and came out of qualies, so I knew it would be a tough match.

"But I was serving really well, and that was the difference in the end. And I had to be aggressive, because Garbiñe doesn't come off of the baseline, so I knew I couldn't just wait for her mistakes."

Halep has beaten Flipkens in both of their previous meetings.

"She's on a roll," Flipkens said. "She won a tournament last week on clay and this week is in the finals on grass, so she's an all-around player, and she's in the best shape of her life. But I am too, so I'm really looking forward to playing the final. We'll see what happens. I'm really excited about it."

"It's going to be a tough match," Halep said. "It's going to be tricky because she slices the ball a lot, but I will try my best like I've been doing all week here, and we'll see how it goes tomorrow."

Flipkens has a better record in WTA finals than Halep, though - Flipkens is 1-0, Halep is 1-3.

Simona also had a great series of Victories in Rome. It took Serena to stop her:
    http://www.wtatennis.com/players/player/13516/title/simona-halep

I love her down-the-T serve, also the deep, well-controlled drives from both sides.

Good luck, Simona, tomorrow and at Wimbledon.

"What? That's like slapping god in the face for giving you such a great gift!"

"Dude, she had back problems, and plus it wasn't just a reduction, they totally reshaped them. Now, they're more supple and symmetrical."

Halep breaks immediately; great lob and good returns
    Flipkens slices a lot

It's the precision passing and depth of Halep against the S-V and slice by Flipkens
    2-0 Halep
    3-0 double break

French commentators: Halep is very mobile, focused, not impressed by the higher ranking of the opponent

But Flipkens strikes with some great dropshot and lobbing
    3-1 Halep
    3-2
4-2 Halep who defends well against 2 BPs
    4-3
    5-3 Halep has a perfect service game, including a down-the-T on 2nd
5-4 Flipkens defends well her BH

    RAIN

Back on court. Simona Halep needs to serve out the set.
She does that quite successfully, with long drives to the corners, ending with an ace on 2nd serve.
    6-3 Halep

3-0 already for Halep in the 2nd
    but Flipkens breaks back
    3-1 Halep
4-1 Halep breaks again, after a DF by Flipkens
5-1 very good long shots by Halep
    5-2
    Halep serving for the match

    HALEP WINS IN TWO SETS

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT CLAY-GRASS DOUBLE

    Halep Conquers 's-Hertogenbosch

Whether it's the clay of Nürnberg or the grass of 's-Hertogenbosch, she just can't be stopped. Simona Halep beat Kirsten Flipkens at the Topshelf Open for her second WTA title in as many weeks.

'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands - Some players take the two weeks between Roland Garros and Wimbledon to rest, recover and prepare for another Grand Slam journey, others go on 10-match winning streaks - Simona Halep is one those others, winning her first WTA title at Nürnberg last week and already her second at 's-Hertogenbosch this week - more amazing, they were on completely opposite surfaces.

Having already taken out No.1 seed Roberta Vinci and No.3 seed Carla Suárez Navarro en route to the final, Halep picked off another favorite in the final, storming out to 3-0 leads in both sets then never really looking back either time to take out No.4 seed Kirsten Flipkens for the title, 64 62.

Nürnberg last week was on slow red clay, while 's-Hertogenbosch this week was on slick grass.

"It's incredible, because I played really well on grass after a week on clay," Halep said. "Today I played well. I was a little bit nervous at the start but I just tried to fight for every point. She's playing a very difficult game for me, slicing a lot, but I played every point and just kept going.

"I'm really happy. I want to enjoy this evening. It's a special moment for me."

Though Halep had a breakthrough week in Rome recently, her French Open follow-up wasn't so great.

"I didn't expect this," the Romanian said. "I played really well in Rome, but I lost first round at the French Open. But that's tennis. I really want to keep enjoying and improving my game now."

And when does she leave for Wimbledon? "Tonight - so I will have to celebrate this after Wimbledon!"

Halep is the fifth Romanian ever to win multiple WTA titles in their career, after Virginia Ruzici (who won seven), Irina Spirlea (four), Ruxandra Dragomir-Ilie (four) and Alexandra Dulgheru (two).

Flipkens still had a great week, reaching her second WTA final - she is now an even 1-1 in those.

"It was really not easy to play with the wind today - it's especially difficult for me to play in with my serve," Flipkens said. "But Simona's in the shape of her life. She won last week on clay, and this week on grass. It looks like it doesn't even matter to her what surface she's playing on at the moment - she's a little bit in seventh heaven for the moment and she played a great match today.

"I'm still really happy with my week, though. In the first match I was a set down against Francesca and came back to win. And I would have been fine before this week if I knew I'd play the finals."

And what are the Belgian No.1's plans for Wimbledon? "I leave tomorrow morning," she said. "It won't be easy to take care of my body, but I'm really looking forward to it. Every Grand Slam is special, but this one is even more special with the tradition, and because I enjoy playing on grass so much."

Great results indeed for Halep.... her decision to lighten up seems to have been the right one (as much as we all hate it).

Back in the Netherlands in 2014 as the titleholder

The draw for next week in Netherlands is out. Tough quarters:

    Halep - Petkovic
(Q first round for Halep, then Beck - tough)

    Muguruza - Bouchard
    (V. King for Bouchard 1st round - can be tough)

At Hertogenbosch, first match of the titleholder, tomorrow:

    Not Before 8:30 am EST

    [1] Simona Halep (ROU)
    v
    [Q] Olga Govortsova (BLR)

3-0 career for Halep, but Wimbledon last year was a 3 setter affair.

There should be a minimum posting age as to WTA players. How about if you haven't reached the mental age of 12, please refrain from posting for a few more years?

Good start of the tournament for Simona:

    Simona Halep 7 6
    Olga Govortsova 5 2

Next is Annika Beck, and Halep had some difficulties with her last year here (a 3-setter), so I am sure Simona will be on guard.

The top 5 in Hertogenbosch are out, with Halep's exception. Muguruza is in. Let's see if these two persevere, taking into account Wimbledon nearing.

Man, what a mess these two tournaments have been this week for the top women but like you said, hopefully the up and comer's Halep and Muguruza do well in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Well, Halep didn't move and play too well today, but was able to come back from 0-3 in the first. Then I heard about a shoulder injury (the streaming was poor). Then suddenly:

    Ret. Simona Halep 7 2
    Annika Beck 5 3

I feel bad for the tournament. Seems like everybody's taking a break before W.

I wonder if this is serious with her though.

Add halep to the list of match fixers. She quits when she's winning with fake injuries.

The girl was moving slow and something was bothering her at the upper back/neck. Had a trainer massage in the break between sets and maybe she concluded it's not worth more risks before Wimbledon.
Too bad, she was able to beat Beck effortless...

Illogical. Get a grip. If you are going to fix the match from retirement, why would it matter if you're ahead or not.

Simona's were so big it looked like a cartoon. I don't recall Goerges having that size. Then again, Simona has a more petite body, so the teets stood out more.

    Potential Ladies' quater-finals:

    Williams-Sharapova,
    Halep-Jankovic

    Azarenka-Radwanska,
    Kvitova-Li

Good for Halep in one respect: she doesn't have to play both Serena and Sharapova

Roland Garros finalist Simona Halep takes on Teliana Pereira of Brazil in her opening round

The top half of the Men's (Murray & Djokovic) and the Ladies' bottom half (Li & Radwanska) will play Monday
thus Simona should start on Tuesday
