"I'm not a song and dance out there. I just go out and play." --Pete Sampras.

I'd say that quote captures the essence of Pete, almost like an epitaph quote, like "Image is everything" is for Agassi.

Other quotes which sum up a player:

    Hewitt: "COME AWWWWNNNN"

Rafa: "I try my best, no?"

Federer: "It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice."

LOL, everybody can shout 'come on' to boost their confidence. It doesn't exactly capture the essence of only Hewitt in any way.

No, but with Hewitt it's usually on the first point of the match.

I saw Hewitt yell an extended come awn when he broke Corretja in the first game of their match in Lisbon WTF. He was definitely rubbing it in and Corretja was ticked off. AC came back and won in three sets. Hewitt almost triple bageled Corretja earlier that year in Melbourne. But Hewitt usually waited for later in sets to yell his come awns. I think Corretja annoyed Hewitt with some press statements about Hewitt's antics.

After his loss against "The flying dutchman" in W. 1996. He wanted to win for his in 1996 gone coach Tim Gullickson (brain cancer).

With a look into the sky: "Sorry, Tim."

    Boris Becker philosophical
He was 19 years old at that that time and already a multislamwinner. If you listen carefully, then you understand why he didnt end up in double numbers and the goat debate...

Must be hard of hearing, all I heard was Becker tell the umpire not to make a mistake.

Ah, Peter Doohan. That was the first slam I watched from beginning to end, so I came to think upsets were more common than they were and especially are now.

Becker is pretty introspective. John Feinstein describes him waking up after winning the us open and thinking, "is that all there is?" It almost sounds as though Becker was suffering from depression in the early 1990s, when he should probably have been the dominant player.
