    Does anyone also feel that?

I thought I hit the ball pretty hard, but it feels more like slapping and not so much biting into it and giving it the solid thud sound. I dunno. Any variation of the serve that I do is probably a derivative of slice serve, hence, the scratchy/grating sound and not full on impact.

How can I dial up the head-on impact and dial down the slicing?

You could start by putting up a video, showing your service motion so we can actually see what you're describing very vaguely :)
It's kinda hard to give valuable tips without actually seeing the stroke.

I'd guess either your racquet is moving somewhat in the wrong direction (like it would on a slice, except for it would be the right direction then)
or the racquet head is tilted and you need to turn your wrist a little.

But these are wild guesses based on the description of a sound, so I wouldn't put too much value on them.
