Sneaky Petzschner exploits the 2-hander...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibntOWU4dnM

Watch the point starting at 4:10.

I don't know if my observation is correct, but it seems on the penultimate shot of the rally that Djokovic couldn't help but telegraph his slice (since the takeback is obviously so different from his 2-handed topspin bh) - so as soon as he had begun the prep to hit the slice, Petzschner read it, rushed the net and volleyed - Djoker didn't know what hit him!!

I'm not sure though - do you think that Petzschner was going to approach anyway (no matter what) and was just lucky he approached on a slice? Or he actually read the slice?

Petzscher is an inventive player imo - it's nice to see the different things he brings to the table...

He read it. His own slice was really low and short. He wasn't approaching off his own backhand, he charged the net after seeing Djokovic's preparing for his slice. As soon as he realized Djokovic had to reach for the ball, and was going to hit up, ran to the net and volleyed it.

It was quite smart.

Wait, so does Petzschner ever hit a topspin backhand? And how many hands does he use, if he ever does it? Lol.

I think that could be a huge upset. Petz took Nadal to 5 sets last year.

Great match that was; could have won too but I think the occasion got the better of him and he just took the foot off the gas pedal enough for Nadal to come back and win

Beautifully slow down the pace against the big guy and give himself a chance to win. Petzschner does have a decent 2-hand backhand but I guess he thinks it does not match up well against Djokovic. Give Djokovic credits that he steps in further later in the match to neutralize the slices. One of the match up really good to watch in today’s tennis.

Petzschner is someone big guys does not want to see in the first round. The big guy probably still going to win but have to pay.

someone didn't watch the match. you shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about, but you're a ******* so i don't expect better.

Of course I watched the match. It seems some people think that taking an MTO for a hurting limb at the beginning of the fourth set amounts to "cheating". Pretty laughably insane, that.

he was giving djokovic a fight by moving it around with the slice.. he could beat any of us just using the slice. lol..

I think it proves that the tennis court is too small for trying to win by hitting winners. He just returns the ball slowly and deep giving himself the time to get back in neutral position and dares the other guy to hit a winner. Even Djokovic finds it hard to hit a winner against an opponent in neutral position.
