I don't think the boards have changed too much. I have been around since the old boards. I do miss the old Rants & Raves section (even though I was banned 2 or 3 times for going overboard on a Standford grad or two). I generally only post to be a smart ***.

I was actually thinking about it a few days ago, and I feel like while the general level of discourse on the board has gone south a bit, the content has actually not changed that much. I recall when Sampras was struggling in the twilight of his career similar threads were being made to the Federer ones of today. Lots of new "faces" on the boards these days, and there's a lower sense of community and recognition between members, IMO.

That may just be because I avoid the boards with extremely colorful characters, though...

I've only just begun to watch movies after being gifted a drive with several hundred movies. Haven't seen anything of TM yet, I do have some on the drive.

I definitely prefer cleaning my dog's poop to anything else in the world.

I miss Phil. Dedan's is awesome as are much of the old schoolers. Yeah Deuce was a dick but he was interesting. Datacipher, etc too.

The boards have become more moderated - not that it's a bad thing, clearly TW is on TV all the time and they have an image to maintain. Most of my posts are deleted but they have been nice enough to not ban me. That's why I don't share my stories any more.

Check the A's thread for an old school norcal post (deleted in 3,2,1).

    Cheers!

I probably set the bar too high, originally. Instead, when reviewing Malick, please rate him on a scale between cleaning up your dog's poop and cleaning up after your incontinent co-worker.

I have heard some good stuff about Tree of Life.
Will keep your scale in mind :D

Hmm, they're definitely moderated much more than the old board (2000-20004 ish), but I think things are pretty laid back now (as compared to other forums). There's some other issues that need to be sorted out, but I think personalities are good, trolls/jerks are not. We definitely lack some of the more colorful personalities of the past, though.

Good points and accurately remembered (the part about the adult posters having some of the worst wars). But from a technical standpoint, I think the information provided was priceless back then (and I'm just talking the racquet talk). Really getting into the feel and specs of a racquet, and comparing it to others, was good stuff and very helpful to me during a racquet transition for me. NoBadMojo, Triple B and Breakpoint all helped me out bigtime. Unfortunately, NoBadMojo was involved in some of those wars (not pointing the finger at him), and eventually, he just left the forum. Technically, he was a wealth of knowledge. IMO, the younger posters don't have the experience or enough time with the racquets to give as good of feedback. Some of that is because the technology is changing too fast and racquet models change every year. Previously, someone could talk indepth about a racquet like the Prostaff 95, Wilson FPK (my favorite), etc. because they played with the racquet for 10 years.

Odds and Ends has certainly become quieter, and I think it's a direct reflection of members not connecting in the same way they used to.

Maybe all the cool kids hang out somewhere else on the internet these days. That I haven't found that place probably says a lot about me...

Joe Pike married his significant other Gunther Parshe, moved to Ireland and changed their respective names to Gerald Fitzpatrick and Patrick Fitzgerald.

Mother Marjorie is currently giving lessons in sucking bat guano off cave walls....you bet she does!

Your kid is in college now, right? What did he end up studying? Did you take my advice on the Feynman Lectures,... finally? :D

At least, I think that is you...

It's been really fun to see the old posters here.

As for me, if any of you still remember me, I'm still fat!

Deuce was amazing. I think that not only was he banned, but all trace of him was removed as well. Very unusual. I think there is more to the story, but I don't know it. (DD might…) I don't think he's back -- he was so distinctive, we'd know it soon enough if he was.

I really don't think Phil was banned. Maybe for two weeks or so once, but that's it. I think he just left.
And all this is a bad thing??

    Yes.

What did that nut have to say about airliners? Now that I think about it, why would anyone hang around on a site about airliners…?

Maverick still stalking the ladies I see….

    Still wearing 'em at 51!

    Tekyo was awesome...

Say what? I never did anything creepy, you libelous stalker, and be patient: someday someone might not win a tournament, and then we'll see who's laughing.

Dedans still smacking around SFrazier. I like it.

    That too.

    Black as night, my friend.

He made Deuce seem like a nice, normal guy in comparison… I believe he quit in a huff after he was forced out as a moderator.

Never understood why people complained about RR when no one was forcing them to visit it… I guess we can blame folks like you for the disappearance of classic posters like Stormholloway and the like.
