So i'm doing it for fun

    After playing a very competitive high level tourney, for my last one the summer i'm going to S&V every point in this last tournament.

    That means like almost every point off my serve, and chipping and charging. So that brings me to the relevance of this post:

    When you're returning what are some good ideas on the when/how/where of the slicing/chipping the returns to get in to the net, and some basic ideas for a S&V player. I'm about a 4.5 with a really big serve and good slice backhand, if you want to know anything else just ask.

    One big thing in chipping and charging on serves is to keep your approach in front of you. Going crosscourt is a very risky play unless you pound a great shot, which shouldn't happen often if your opponenet has any sort of serve.

    most of the time, it's prolly best to go down the line on your chip and charge. it's less area you have to cover, and less angles you'll be giving him.

    If you can return down the line deep in the cornor the point should be yours. Of course considering how good the server is, it is a lot easier said them done.

    You got to love the game.

    Thanks a lot guys, I actually didn't think about that keep it in front of you idea, I probably would have hit a few cross court.

    As you can tell i'm a baseliner who occasionally volleys, but not like this :p

    Anymore ideas guys this is really great

    I would agree with all the posters above. Chip so that the ball barely lands past the service line and come in. Keep the ball in the center deep or down-the-line and close off his angles.

    The more penetrating your chip and charge is the better. Just dont lose your balance when your coming in.

    Chip so that the ball barely lands past the service line, meaning keep it short and drawing your opponent in as well and hopefully off balance a bit I guess? Because off a serve if the player falls into the court and I chip it into the service line he's actually a lot closer to it and able to get to it - or maybe you meant during the point.

    Secondly the more penetrating the better - wouldn't that mean the deeper the better? It seems sort of contradictory...

    So maybe if you could explain when to do this or what to do a little bit more clearly, also here's something you might LOVE to know (joke) I might be able to record some strokes sometime soon for you to watch. :p

    Also, going down the middle isn't too bad. If you can hit it just a tad early enough and use the pace of the server, you can get server off guard. You are also not giving the server much angle to work with
