It doesn't matter where it will be played. The USA will win their 1st Davis Cup since 1995. Props to Roddick and the Bryan Bros.

The two sites still in contention to host the Davis Cup final are Portland and Winston-Salem. From what I hear, Portland is the front runner because Winston-Salem hosted the quarterfinal match. Either way, the matches will be played in an indoor arena.

I'm not on the inside of this, but I do know that the Portland group has some strong folks behind their effort (like Ian Hamilton, the former Nike tennis exec) and they have an arena (the Memorial Coliseum, where the Blazers used to play) that is available. Also, Portland is the home of the Nike world headquarters and the Adidas US office, so there are some easy corporate tie-ins there. And finally, Portland last hosted the Davis Cup over 20 years ago and it's central west coast location will make it easy to get to for anybody in the California, Oregon, Washington area... so it should be a completely packed house.

Here are the links to the site selection information:

(The info is buried near the middle of both locations.)
