Solinco Hyper G Prefered Gauge

17g is the sweetspot. 16g is too harsh on the arm. 18g plays softer but loses durability, spin and control. I find 17g to play comfortable without losing the benefit of Hyper G's excellent spin and control.

18 really loses spin??

I find that with shaped strings, thinner gauges don’t benefit from the string gripping the ball as much because the shape is not as prominent. I have tried all 3 gauges and can say there’s better spin potential with 16&17g. The spin potential also lasts longer because the ridges grind down quicker with thinner gauges.

Great analyze!! :)
I love the 17g and I was curious to try the 18 to see if I could get little more comfort but without losing spin and not too much control... Will test soon but I agree your analyze.

I would also suggest trying some of the thinner gauges like 18, 19, and 20. Personally I wouldn't go 16L or 16 in that racket stringing it for my self unless durability is low with thinner strings. It's a dense pattern and I don't want to string thicker gauges in it for my self.

18G has a very high spin rate. In fact, it's substantially more than the 17G despite what @avocadoz said. Perhaps because it pockets more? Can any other 18G users confirm?

I'm considering trying it for my 16x20 frame (VCORE 95).. But mostly concerned with it snapping soon even though I wouldn't consider myself a string breaker. Volkl Cyclone Tour 18 (1.20) lasted me 12+ hours, which I was happy with.

I've been using 17G in my RF97, feels crisp and solid, even after about 10hrs of use so durability seems ok. My multi's and hybrids kept snapping after 6hrs or so but yet to snap since i switched to poly. First couple of hours, i felt completely disconnected from the ball but once the string bed settled, it felt great!

Tempted to try the 18g for an even softer? feel...

Still hoping to get more input from other users, apart from the above, that have tried the 17g v. 18g and their thoughts on spin potential and playability between the two.

Just wondering how does it compare to Luxlion Timo 1.10mm. It was a monster spin and bounce high!

Haven't tried hyper G yet.

@dnguyen is Timo a shaped poly as well? Did you have issues with the shaped profile wearing down after a few hours? That's what I was concerned with on the Hyper G 18 since it was speculated above.

Tried tonight 18g. No big difference with 17. Little more comfort and spin/slice but nothing spectacular... Pretty close control.

2hours. Will keep you informed. But 17g last only 5hours in great playability... So I don't expect more with 18g... (like any poly finally...)
5 hours is awful.. Are you a tough grader or it gets that noticeably bad immediately? That's like.. two hitting sessions.

I just started playing tennis after a. Both of calf injury and it’s still freshly strung. VS natural team at mains and timo at crosses.

Will try 1.30mm va touch at mains and timo at crosses at low tension.

I wouldn’t worry about tension less, just want to break it when it will break, time to restring. So I don’t know how long it will break.

16g Solincos play from bad to worse in my experience. Especially stands for the Revolution which is great in 18g, good in 17 but 16g is terrible, borderline of unplayable.
HyperG is excellent in 17G.

After 5hours with 17g, strings are moving quite much and snapback reduce... Not the case with Ultra Cable, for example. But I still like HG!
