Nobody ever talks about her on TV, the media or even here at the great TW forums. She kind of slips through the cracks, maybe that's the way she wants it. But she is a great competitor, helluva player and fighter, winner of 5 titles, Wimbledon finalist, some big wins in her career over top names. I have never seen an interview with her until this one popped up...

She is a pretty interesting character, you would expect so from her eccentric playing style. She paints, loves Picasso and had a very quick learning curve and understanding of how to hit a tennis ball when she first started playing.

As in those Jackie Gleason jokes, it's unlikely she could ever "slip through the cracks," but she was actually the subject of a thread some months ago, in which we learned:
    1) she should lose weight
    2) nobody here would want to date her because anyone with such an akward service motion would probably, well, not give great service
    3) her father seem like an annoying fellow who would probably greet you at the door with a shotgun
    4) she should lose weight
    5) she seems annoyingly intelligent
    6) blonds rock

Having said the above, I should add that I find her appealing, sweet in interviews and attractive in her off-court coiffure (I have a weakness for sullen-looking brunettes.)

I actually like Bartoli and her father. They take a very unique approach to the game that is not often seen. Yes her father is protective but can you blame him. The WTA is like the lesbian vampire tour always looking for converts. If it was your daughter you would be protective too.

Bartoli is very intraverted. Shes pretty genuine but also very shy. A real sweetheart. This always seems to be looked down upon with tennis fans for some reason. Strange because tennis itself is fairly intraverted in terms of sport. It seems tennis fans a always starving for gossip and travesty for whatever reason. Now I am not a huge fan of womens tennis but I find her and her father somewhat refreshing. The father is a little strange but hey hes French and fairly genuine himself. I am OK with that. True Characters who are comfortable with themselves are some of the most interesting people. They both have a very honest love for the game which we dont see all that often anymore in these days of WTA/ATP college, heavy marketing, and photo shoots.

I like her but she is as quirky as a moneky on a tricycle.

Her training methods are strange to say the least.

A commentator at wimbledon once said she practies her serve motion using a FISHING ROD and as a child they used a drainpipe to hit groundstrokes

Well said Magnet. She is very attractive and I would not say fat at all, she has sort of a stronger boned body. She is very attractive and feminine. Odd training habits can be productive. I knew a very very strong player on the local scene who used to practice sometimes hitting against a wall with a boat oar lol. Good player too.

I dont really see here as fat either. Not overweight anyways. She is pretty thick but much has to do with her body type. I do think she could shed some weight though. I have some matches of her first year on the tour and she was a little leaner. It could only help her movement.

    Nalbandian....he's fat :)

    Both great players though.

As far as her training goes....just because its outside the box does not mean its not benefitial. Many things that are done now were outide the box 30 years ago. Margy Court was the first women tennis player to lift weights and that was pretty taboo for womens tennis back then. Swinging a pipe is just going to improve core strength. Serving with a fishing poll is just going to aid in extension.

Her father used to tape tennis balls to her heels as well. Try playing like that and not staying on your toes!

Nadal did as well, but he is too humble so he used a pen name when publishing it.

I have to agree. I think Marion is an interesting player and I always pull for her when she plays. So many players on the tour are cookie cutter replicas of each other. It's nice to have someone who is a little bit unique. I'm also partial to brunettes.

^^ Not that long ago Bartoli listed herself as 128 lbs. Put her side by side with Henin who was 5'5" 125 lbs. LOL

Where have you been?? Certainly not to the ATP site to look at the live score results or clicked on the tournament above the scores to find the order of play.

BTW Henin suddenly returned and is now in the semi's LOL

I saw an interview with Bartoli last summer and was pleasantly surprised. She is always so glum on court that the positive, happy and light-hearted personality she displayed in the interview was quite nice.

Of course, this only made me feel kinda bad for her because it's kind of a pity that, as a sweet girl, (1) she is totally overshadowed by the better looking, skinnier models who are now in the WTA top 20; and (2) she has a weirdo for a father.

Isnt she a natural lefty? But she hits with a righty backhand and forehand and serves with right so that is the reason for her akward service motion. Or I am wrong?? :D

^^^ She is a natural lefty. She should have played lefty as that would have given her an advantage. Then again lefties haven't had much luck on the WTA since Seles.

Not that I take much interest in WTA but her b!tchy comments about Ivanovic when Ivanovic was struggling were a disgrace.

She's also got the ugliest serve I have ever seen.

No network shows WTA. No viewer wants to watch matches where no one can hold serve.

WTA is always here...livescorehunter.com as are all tournaments and matches...ATP as well
