Some reality on Roddick

What you missed in 2nd set

I don't know but I'm working very closely on it with your doctors.

Last night was yet another example of the holes in Roddicks game. I did not watch all of the second set because I was too discouraged after seeing him get continually out rallied from the back of the court in the first set.

Aah...the second set! After more of the first set tactical failures (definition of insanity:doing same thing over&over expecting different results) and falling behind, young Andy took over and ranted about let call due to netcord sensor. It so enraged the lad that he issued a warning to the chair after receiving a code violation. Gamesmanship flourishes when facing defeat. Gasquet did drop a level and Roddick drew even. Gamesmanship disappeared, what a surprise! In the breaker, down a mini-break the boy played a poor shot and threw his stick in a hissy fit. Alas, his intimidation of the chair had worked and he did not receive the automatic point-penalty he deserved. Thankfully, Gasquet put us out of the misery of watching a third set by closing with yet another beautiful winner!

Lol. Hurry up. I've contracted HIV, I'm sorry. I TAKE IT BACK FOR INSULTING YOU!!!. JUST HURRY THE HELL UP AND FIND A FRIKKIN' CURE. PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. My life is in your hands as of now. I hope you were serious. Have the doctors came up with anything?

Anyways back in reality......

I haven't watched Roddick in some time now. Used to dig his game back in 02-04/parts of 2005. I didn't even watch his Miami win last year because up until then he was still passive as hell. I tried to watch a match with Soderling this year and he lost 7-5 6-3 but gave up mid-way; Quite unbelievable given he hit 0 winners off the FH wing. what the hell. If you're losing 7-5 6-3 to Soderling hitting basically 0 winners then imagine what he could do if he took charge?

The "reality" on Roddick is he's an aging male tennis player in the age of Federer/Nadal.
He's a petulant brat who acts like the entitled white american male that he is.

Either Xenophobia or just plain stupidity.

ah Mr Roddick, seems to be a real love/hate with this chap

whilst I was never a huge fan and found watching him a tad dull, having met him a few times he seems a very nice bloke

I have seen him play a few times back in his heyday and he was good to watch live, just watching the serve was worth it especially on grass. He did go up in massivleymy estimation after watching 09 Wimbledon and I felt extremely sorry for him that day never seen anyone try harder, he peaked in 09 and I don't think he has ever quite got over that loss

But he is reaching the end of his career IMO, as has been said no here his forehand is nowhere near what it used to be...

I think he lets his sturborness get the best of him. Why would you hit a second serve on match point down to Gasquet's backhand, when he has been beating you all day long with that shot? Roddick has trouble accepting the facts, and comes off looking foolish at best.

i'm right with the OP, except in the matter of "greatness", which for me he falls short of. otherwise, bang on.

The problem for Roddick was not Federer, his problem was that Federer played CONSISTANTLY well in Slams in 2003-2010 which is Andy's whole career really.

The same goes for Agassi. You think he would've won 8 majors if Sampras consistently played his best in 1992-2000? Take away his 1994/1999 US Opens for sure, maybe 1992 Wimbledon as well.

You need to remember that Andre was VERY close to Pete. Your argument here is very weak. Andre beat Pete FOURTEEN times and won only 10 less career tournaments than him. He also won a Gold, which Pete didn't. He also won the career slam and the French--which Pete didn't. They were very, very close. The only difference was Pete's brilliant serving under pressure in some of their finals. Andre could have beaten Pete in '95 Open final if he had some normal rest and didn't have to play Becker until 10 at night the day before the final.

It was definitely Pete's serve that gave him an extra edge over Andre in their rivalry. But I must correct you on one thing -- Pete only won 2 more career titles than Andre, not 10. I believe the final totals for their careers is 62-60 for Pete. The big difference of course is that 14 of Pete's 62 are majors as opposed to only 8 of 60 total titles for Andre. So, Andre actually won more regular tour events including 17 masters series events -- several more than Pete.

Wait a minute ... I think it was 64 for Pete and 60 for Andre. 50 regular tour events + 14 majors for Pete and 52 tour events + 8 majors for Andre.
