It truly is remarkable how long Andy Roddick's been going at it as a top star in tennis. His title in Brisbane makes 2010 the 10th consecutive year in which Roddick has won at least 1 tour title. He's now been a top 10 player for 8+ years.

I know it may feel out of place to ask for respect for him, but to me it gets tiring at times to hear people just downright overlook him, and give him zero respect by and large due to his poor record vs Federer.

Even with that, the fact that the guy's been a top player for so long still has to be respected, and I think some people at times (don't need to name names) just don't give him any respect whatsoever. It really is amazing that a guy can be so good for so long and still get no respect from some people and be called a "one-trick pony".

Great job Andy, and best of luck in 2010!

He is a good, mentally strong player who has had bad luck over the years. That said, I don't much like him personally and he seems a rather poor sport.

Heck, I'm not the biggest Roddick fan either. Just ask around and people will tell you, I've been more than critical of Roddick at times.

But the fact that he's been a top player for the better part of more than a decade now surely still has to be commended by every tennis fan, love him or hate him.

It truly is remarkable how long Kip Winger been going at it as a top star in the music buisness. His latest CD makes 2010 the 15th consecutive year in which Kip has had a top 200 single in the Billboard hot 200. He's now been a top Heavy Metal frontman for over 20 years.

I know it may feel out of place to ask for respect for Mr. Winger, but to me it gets tiring at times to hear people just downright overlook him, and give him zero respect by and large due to his pretty face and nice white teeth.

Even with that, the fact that the guy's been a top heavy metal bassist for so long still has to be respected, and I think some people at times (don't need to name names) just don't give him any respect whatsoever. It really is amazing that a guy can be so good for so long and still get no respect from some people and be called a "one-trick pony" rock star.

Great job Kip, and best of luck in 2010!

Why? Because I'm a trolling troll who hates every player not named Blake, right?

Well he's certainly entertaining to watch and considering his coach thought that mardy Fish was going to be the better player he's done quite well.

Blake is awesome by the way. I like players based on how entertaining they are and not just on there results. Blake rocks in that respect.

You havn't been around long enough to appreciate the Conquistador type of response to a Conquistador type of thread. This is the way in which one deals with a Conquistador thread.

    Relax.

    I heart Roddick.

No, because you're just displaying how huge of a hypocrite you really are by posting this thread. You're telling people to not overlook Roddick because of his record with Federer, yet YOU criticize Roddick for not being able to beat Federer. I guess it's ok for you to do whatever you want, yet it's not ok for people to do the same things as you do right?

You're telling me to grow up yet you're the one just displaying how massive of a hypocrite you really are.

Hrm, that's funny. Sounds like the pot is calling the the shelf of kettles black for whatever reason. Sounds like you're being a hypocrite here doesn't it?

    Yeah, it's all good.

I criticize him, but I don't do what some others do and say he's not even a good player.

Others have said Roddick isn't even a good player, and use his record vs Roger to prove that. When have you seen me say what others say about Roddick - that he's a one trick pony, serve only, etc. Show me saying that, or else go away.

I'm not saying people can't be critical of his record vs Fed, but that is no excuse to overlook what a great career he's had even w/ his poor record vs Fed. Some just overlook the totality of his career b/c of the h2h, and even go as far to say he only won a slam by luck. Show me saying that, or else, like I said, go away.

Have I had zero respect for Roddick like certain others on here seem to have?

That is a good achievement over the eight years. I would however enjoy all of his schit talking of other players amount to a busted face. The guys married to Brooklyn Decker for christ sakes. Does he need any additional respect?:)

Sounds like a lack of respect to me.

Sounds like more lack of respect for Roddick to me. 3 time Wimbledon finalist, only stopped by arguably one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, and multiple time Queens champion is somehow overrated? Ok.

Let's show some more gems from JBF#1 and his hypocrisy

    Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

love Roddick and agree he is unrightfully over looked at times. I really would love to see him win a slam this year but he's already accomplished quite a bit in his career, just not up to snuff with past Americans

It truly is remarkable how long Kanye West been going at it as a top star in hip hop. His awards at the Grammys makes 2009 the 4th consecutive year in West has won at least one award. He's now been a mainstay of the music scene for the last 5 years.

I know it may feel out of place to ask for respect for him, but to me it gets tiring at times to hear people just downright overlook him, and give him zero respect by and large due to his poor record vs Swift.

Even with that, the fact that the guy's been a top player for so long still has to be respected, and I think some people at times (don't need to name names) just don't give him any respect whatsoever. It really is amazing that a guy can be so good for so long and still get no respect from some people and be called a "******bag".

JB#!, the weird vitriol on this thread makes me feel compelled to defend you, one of our finest tournament thread-starters here! It seems the only UE you made in your harmless opening was a mere mention of the notorious Conquistador :)! That throwaway line unleashed a beast in the hearts of others...

But on to your point: yes, Roddick definitely deserves respect for his years as a Top Ten player, and many of us would have enjoyed seeing him in the WTF. His Wimbledon play with Fed was, of course, amazing, but he's fun to watch with others, too. I had hoped to see him do really well in Brisbane but while he won, he seemed less consistent than I would've hoped. But neither here nor there...he's a real contender.

NamRanger, I think JBF simply feels (or has felt) differently towards Roddick at certain times from the way he has at others. Surely there has been at least one person about whom your feelings have shifted, gradually or rapidly, once or even multiple times. Certainly it has been my experience that most people have someone whom they once disliked, but grew to appreciate, whom they once liked, but grew to detest, or someone with whom they had a mercurial relationship which shifted anywhere and everywhere, back and forth across the spectrum of emotional orientation.

I have seen jamesblakefan look alternatingly like anything from a bitter detractor to a supporter of Roddick, and I don't think this is merely an act; he feels differently at different times. It is my impression that this thread is sincere.

Your positive and polite outlook on things is nice for a change. However, when one carbon copies a troll's method of trolling, inserts hated poster's favorite player inside said method of trolling, it's extremely hard to believe that it is sincere.

Especially when all evidence points to the fact that he has in fact never respected Roddick's abilities at all.

Right. It's called being human. I think Nam wants all of us to be robots who only feel one way about certain issues. At times I like Roddick, other times I dislike Roddick. But at the end of the day, I respect what he's done in his career, and the longevitity and success he's had in this game. If you can't take my word for it Nam, that's your problem, not mine.

Roddick had some great run at the slams but unfortunately he came up short in the finals(except 03 USO). Yet, there were many times he gets criticize for being an underachiever and unable to beat Roger at the slams. However, outside of Roger, Roddick was the most consistent player to stay in the top ten in the last decade. No one was as consistent as he was. Some people don't remember this but only remember the part where he was unable to beat Roger. Other players get chewed out too including Hewitt, Davy, Gonzo and company who got owned by Roger when he was at the height of his power.

Putting the mini user-war we've got going on here aside (c'mon guys, take it easy; we all know that gj is probably reading this from his six-billionth username and twirling his mustache at the strife, don't give him the satisfaction) yeah, Roddick deserves props. I think he could stand to behave a little (or a lot, depends on the match) better, but the guy's all fight.

Rock on, Andy. Best of luck in 2010.

Roddick is a terrific athlete and tennisplayer. I have a lot of respect for him. He deserves to win a second Slam, but I don't think it'll happen. He was not very lucky to play in this era. You got to admire is persistence and consistency inside the top 10 though.

I supported him until he decided to stop caring about himself. I wouldn't call his tennis years as a memory to cherish after the endless joke coaches, fitness collapses, failures & lie that he didn't just play when it was convenient or when he was near his home.

If you take money away from Roddick, he wouldn't play again.
Needless to say, he didn't enjoy the message I sent him after he shamelessly promoted Federer with profuse praise after the French Open final. He was so brainwashed that he thought he looked gracious to Federer. Kind of reminds me of Blake being an aggressive Federer apologist and his excuse for Federer losing at the Olympics. He said Federer was having a bad day, but the faker loser called Gonzalez a liar because Blake's supposed to respect Mr. Hero Federer more!

It was very poor sportsmanship to accuse Gonzalez of something there is no way to prove the Chilean knew of. Same is true to a lesser degree re: Blake- Hewitt incident. He's inspiring enough that I can't hate him, but he's hardly a favorite of mine.
