Something comparable that lasts longer than ALU?

So I've been using a full bed of ALU @ 56 lbs in my MG radicals for awhile now.
Like just about everyone else I love the ALU when it's new, but don't love the way that it drops tension so fast. Long story short it's a hassle to get my sticks restrung so I end up using the ALU for a lot longer than I should, and let's just say I'm sick of dealing with the consequences of that.

I'm going to try out the 4G, but can someone recommend another string or hybrid to try? I'm a 4.5 baseliner and I've never really experimented with string much. I switched to ALU early on when I got sick of breaking strings so often, and I've stuck with it ever since, so ALU is really all that I know.

I'm reading tons and tons of threads and obviously there are 100s of different strings out there. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and I guess I just don't even know where to begin.

I almost want to buy a stringer and learn to do it myself that way I could just stick with ALU and restring it once a week myself. Or easily experiment with a ton of strings until I figure out what I really want to use. But without being able to string 'em myself this just seems really impractical ...

I would buy sets of cyclone, tour bite, and tourna bhb7. You'll find tb most similar to alu but the other two are excellent polys as well. Those three will give you a good idea of what else is out there besides lux.

Thanks. I tried out the lux 4G today and I'm not too fond of it at all. Spin was much harder to come by then I'm used to. If anything I want to go in the other direction, as I really like ALU rough. Spin-wise, which of the above would you recommend? I assume the BHB7? Too bad it only comes in black. That will look pretty crappy in my stick, but I'll give it a try and if I like it I guess I won't care what it looks like!

Solinco Tour Bite would be your best bet

Along these lines, are those good cross string polys for main gut set ups?
