Why do tournaments wait soooooo long before they put up the draw??? It would be nice to at least know what time my daughter plays before the day before the tournament. It would make it alot better so you could plan better. Tournament starts tomorrow and they still dont have match times posted.

    Draw preparation.

I attend a USTA tournament director training session at Stanford. Head of competition suggested that draws be available at least 4 days before the event. Also, I beleive they must put draw up on the day they advertise, although many do not. I agree, many families like to plan more than 48 hours out from a match.

I think you mean the schedule / order of play, not the draw. You know who you are playing already right ?

I'm playing a tourney this wk end and I just found out when I'm playing this afternoon. The draw usually contains the match times.

Usually, but not always. They are technically to different things.
I think the rules are stricter about when they can and cannot post the draws, the td has much greater leeway with the schedule.

I think they wait sometimes because last minute withdrawals can screw up the seeds, draws, etc...

It's not easy putting on a tournament

There is variety in the quality of tournament administration all over the country. Best practices are using the internet at all sites and updating the draws in real time. Unfortunately, this is an exception and not the rules. Being proactive and getting the draws up early is a similar issue. The more restrictive the tournament is, the easier it is for them to nail down the draw at an early date. Late additions and withdraws by seeded players add additional workload and require the draws to be run again. The more training and best practices are shared, the better this process can get. Also need to remember that most of these tournaments are run by volunteers. They don't get paid and they have to manage all the issues and complaints from parents.

It's interesting how the entry fees go up and yet most tournaments are run by volunteers.

    I REALLY hate it too

Just to be clear, all the excuses don't make it any easier on participants when there isn't time for planning.

    Get use to it.

Most nat'l and super's only give you time & location the night before. The morning of the tournament, full draws are posted.

Use to drive me nut's also, but it's just the way it is.

That sucks, most of the junior tournies in NorCal have draws posted by Wednesday night at the latest, usually Tuesday.

All national level and most sectional level 3's I've had experience with post playing times 1-2 days in advance. They do this to prevent cherry picking and last minute pullouts for those who don't like their draw.

    I hate it too!

    Same in England.
But if they post it too early people pull out cos they don't like the draw.

However some tournament organisers are now sending start time a few days before but the actual draw is not available till you get there, much better in my opinion. Wish more would do it.
