Ok watching the Haas/Ferrer match my son noticed this HUGE and what looks clearly like a 300lb ADULT shagging balls at the baseline! I've tried finding a pic but O M G!!!!! kudos to getting out there and running around (this dude is BIG!) the BUT is he looks like he is close to 30.........(ok maybe early 20s) but still - I
see the same at the US Open with freaking 40+ year olds out there.........part of the fun is the ballkids should be kids!

Washington could find a pic as when we saw this guy we thought he looked like he was about to drop dead from exhaustion at times.......my son almost fell on the floor laughing.

i think it was just a really fat kid. At least that's what it looked like in the gasquet vs. murray match. as long as he can do the job, it's ok.

i think it's better than the model ball girl stunt they keep pulling at madrid. seriously, we don't need to make everything sexy. leave something for the kids to enjoy.

I noticed him too. But there should be no age discrimination.

Kramer also handed a cup of hot water to an African running in the NYC marathon which caused him to lose

Was it not also Kramer who tossed a cup of hot water on Mrs. O'Leary's cow causing the great Chicago Conflagration of 1871?

Actually, kramer didn't hand him the cup, jean-paul accidentally picked it up from him. Besides, it was Jerry who deprived jean-paul of sleep, deprived him of a pre-marathon warm-up and messed up his pre-race psyche, eventually causing him to lose in the fashion he did.

I think there was an alarm clock issue somewhere also

Did anyone notice how vkartikv succeeded in making this thread about Seinfeld?

Not that there is anything wrong with that

You know yes there should........back in the day when I ballboyed they had age limits..... It's cool for the kids - but jeez once ur over 19 or 20 get a life, US Open the only one of the big 4 it seems that allows adults to try out.

"see the same at the US Open with freaking 40+ year olds out there.........part of the fun is the ballkids should be kids! "

Part of the fun for who ? Not sure what year you're living in but the USO hasn't been limited to kids in a while. I applaud the notion -- in general. People should be able to make themselves happy. I think it's called the pursuit of happiness. I read that somewhere.

You want to be a ball person and you can do the job, do it.

I know a 40+ "ball kid" at the USO. I'm sure there are several. There was a 70+ guy this past year. They happen to be passionate about the game and want to be involved for a few weeks a year. What's the problem.

Speaking of which like many things in tennis it's anachronistic and time to retire reference to "ball kids."

What put it over the top for me was this past USO I was watching a match and one of the ball persons was ex-military that had lost his leg. The chair needed to say something to him and referred to him as "ball boy." Ball Boy ? Really ? It made me cringe.

I asked the chair about it later and got a fairly idiotic to me reply that it was "policy" to call them ball ball and ball girl. Dear USTA. Change the policy. Dear Chair Umps. Please use your head.

i'm sure he's been called worse things by his superiors in the military. they can be quite crass with their language in that field.

What else would he call him? Sir? Using the wrong military title is also insulting.

As a former BALLBOY (I'm very cool with Ballkid or Ballgirl too) it's lame that some 40 yr old who clearly has many advantages over kids 11 - 18 in most all cases killing a cool tradition in the game. Yea I know the USO has allowed adults for a few years - total PC backdown from threats a few years ago. Part of the charm is having young kids - just about every great player was a Ballkid (Ballperson silly...)

Plenty of other jobs they could give to the adults even on court ones........

I dont have a problem with adults being ball persons. Maybe they're trying to save some money on tickets, or get behind the scenes access.

I'd rather watch the pro matches from court level than nose bleeds any day.

RANT-Why should kids have all the fun??? (Yeah, I never got to do anything cool like that-be a bat girl, meet a celebrity-when I was little, & it irritates me). If someone is physically capable and mature enough to shag balls let him/her do it.

Ball boy is a role name/description - the umpire wasn't calling him literally a ball "boy" as-in young male.

It's no different to referring to a nurse you don't know the name of as a "nurse".. "could you please help me nurse"... or a waiter "waiter, could I..." or a police officer "officer... would you..."

The 'idiotic' reply the umpire you spoke to gave was in fact the correct one. He probably went back to the umpire's room as said "you'll never guess what some idiot just asked me."

I was also at the match and saw the Kid . He is probably around 250 lbs no more than that . Looked to be a teenager . He moved around pretty good the training to be a ball boy is no cakewalk , especially in Miami with the humidity .

I was a ball kid at 6'2" and 18 years old lol. I was taller than a few players, and all of the other ball kids were like 12. Idc, I got on TV and had the chance to dodge Isner serves.
