Watch out for Andre at this year's US Open. This is probably his rock-bottom for the "winter" of his career. Recall Pete's loss to something named George Bastl at Wimbledon, before he roared back just a couple months later and played his greatest (and last) Slam of all.

This is Agassi's excuse to retire - what he's wanted for an entire year.

I think the Andre just didn't prepare physically for the FO. I mean he played just one match and lost it badly too, so there was nothing unexpected happened really.
His only chance of winning a major was at the AO this year, simply because he works extremely hard during off season while other usually rest instead of practicing hard.

I would compare his loss today to a guy who missed all the lectures in school, and then comes to final exam and obviously fails it.

I don't know.. there's one huge difference between Pete's situation and Andre's situation and that's basically Pete's serve and overall game.

Regardless of how long Pete went without a title deep down everyone knew if his serve, volleys and forehand could click for 2 weeks he was still close to unstoppable in a major.

As hard as Andre works, its harder I think for his game to become "untouchable" like the way Roddick or Federer can when they are hot.

One thing I've noticed the last couple years is Andre is surprisingly vulnerable to a good down the line backhand from a rightie. I didn't see much of this match to comment but I did see this guy Haehnel had the capability to hit it.

I don't get it....why does he need an excuse?

If he wanted one for a year but just couldn't find a way to lose a match?
